Re: State of the Game

I totally agree that increased values for picks should not inhibit trading. I think the pick values should be increased, enough to where a 1st round pick is worth twice what they are now, which would put most in the 1100 - 1200 range. As opposed to 550, which is way out of line with their true value. If someone wants to trade their first round pick before the value is established by predicted finish or actual finish, that could be figured similar to the way it is now but at twice the value. Bring down the values of the top 5 where you can still trade a lower 1st round pick with a player or second pick to do so. Maybe the total range of player and pick values can be reduced to between 1 and 2000 or something similar. Just throwing out ideas. As it is, an 8 yr TE with good atts/def value is worth over 2000 in many cases, how are you supposed to trade for him if you wanted to? Do you think it would be good value to trade a 1.15 (600) plus another pick or player worth 400? Which at the present values, a high two rounder is worth less than 400. Or an elite CB, 8 yr vet, with all the good atts, should he still be worth 2300 or more? Maybe, depends on what you can get with a first rounder, usually you cant get an elite DB if there is only 2 or 3 generated for the draft. Which is why being able to trade up into the top picks is pretty critical if you want to get an elite DB.

It seems JD is paying attention to your guys comments and is got this on his list of changes to be made. I'm down for whatever keeps the majority of owners happy . My big problems are more or less ignored because of the solutions it it would take to fix. stopping dupe accounts, or allowing new users to jump in any league . I've mentioned it plenty enough times to realize it's not fixable.
Here one that should stick - might help rosters and the free agent problem also.
- don't allow new users who have just signed up to begin after a league has started
Allowing owners to join mid season when a team is 1-5 can can be a way of owners making things happen for themselves, if a team is not a new user allow them to enter nut restrict there trading for the current season and pick back up in free agency.
One thing that could help and keep things more realistic is
-putting a trade deadline on draft pics week 2 ends then so does the option of first rd. Pics being traded. And every week after another rd becomes locked , week 3 rd 2, week 4 rd 3. .

These are ideas I'm throwing out there
Point system for trading
Predicted top five pick between 3500-3800
Predicted 6-10 3200– 3500
11-20 2500-3200
21-32 1500-2500
2nd rd 1200
3rd rd 700
4th rd 400
5th-7th 150-400
8th year CB 350
2nd year MLB 97 overall 2700
3rd year WR 81-85 1300

The draft pick value should stay the same imo, as it is the value makes it very difficult just to trade 3 mid to late first rounders for a top 5. 3 draft picks pretty much anywhere in the draft is certainly worth a top 5. The pick values should not be messed with. I can see an argument to modify the value of older players though, there is merit in that.

I think there should be a couple "rookie leagues" basically players within their first 90-120 days could join these leagues and be able to trade and such( they would still be restricted on trading in more established leagues for 30 days) . Maybe JBD could even add some "tutorial type" things to the teams in these leagues to get players up to speed easier. The trading right away in rookie leagues would be a big sticking point, new players don't want to wait a month to trade, they want to try it out right away so that would be a good middle ground. Established vets of the game would be unable to join these rookie leagues. For the most part I do not want to see the trade values modified so heavily that it basically kills trading because it becomes impossible for owners to get what they consider fair value. Sure some users abuse trading but it shouldn't kill trading for all owners, this feature is never going to be perfect or an exact science. Even NFL teams get fleeced in trades from time to time.

Good theory, but you will be just matching talent like college. I like the pro model because they use techniques for parity. College is who gets the most bluechippers wins . Like the game is now.

This opinion is only to drive parity not accept it. The farther the base code is from this the more this game will be like college, highchool and pee wee. For advanced, intermediate, and beginner.

I am ok with that, but with out a relective cap this game is resevered for those levels in the way talent can be aquired and held on to. Changing base structures that make for close exiting games fans will watch. Pay the big bucks.

Until the point that every user who plays MFN has basically the same knowledge / intelligence / experience / commitment as all the others, the parity in MFN will always be more like college than the NFL.

Still as the nfl has all elite athletes and college less in comparison, true, but a league here with elite owners only will still be like college.

Because of the parity the nfl creates, to prevent what the yankees did to ensure exciting close games for many years. Look who makes the most money. Now.

Our loose cap acts like a college gobbling up all the bluechippers. In what ever way possible.

Without proper cap distribution this level of parity will never be here.

Look at the trade in 75. Say it ends up a 1.15 for a 2.15.

With every team there having 30 mil in cap...there is not the same risk when trading picks now with volatility shown.

IRL that 1.15 bonus would be close to 10 mil. and the 2.15 more like 2 mil. Not every team should have that 8 mil to spare.

In 75 everybody has alot of cap space and the difference of those picks is more like only a few million not 8 mil. This can happen way too much, which is another factor, no matter talent level, that adds to lack of parity.

It is getting to a point where trading is who you know not what you know. Just a bunch of corrupt fat cats moving money around defending a broken structure. I dont want to play that game.

This is why the nfl keeps parity no matter what owner do. No body want to watch the pats win year in and year out. That would kill the nfls revenue. Which is going up every year. The nfls cap does not go up if revenue does not go up too.

How many drafts have you been in and stayed past the 2nd season ? because free agency does happen. And to compare 1-15 and a 2-15 because of salary is not the way you evaluate the trade and consider anything because of it. Fact is he has to hit on that pick and so do I and that's what really matters not the cap.

This is the dumbest most negative way of seeing things and In a way kinda bashing the league. Your referring to mine and jsid trade and his track record is a bit better then yours and saying him or I don't know what we're doing or one team is getting a steal from this trade and one day will be the pats . Come on man

For the record, I like to trade, and I don't know anyone else who plays MFN.

I will consider offering (or accepting) a trade with any owner in these leagues, except one.

And the only thing I take into consideration regarding trades is "Do I think this trade will help me accomplish my goals with this team?".

I don't care how many star players or draft picks or cap space another team has, as we are all playing under the same rules.

It has been stated over and over again that changes have been made so that it will be harder to keep star players AND a lot of cap space, but that those changes will take time before you start seeing a noticeable effect. Yet people still complain about this issue as if nothing has been done. As if all of a sudden we should log in one day to find out everyone's cap space has been cut by $30 million or the good players all of sudden have much higher contracts.

Ya I wasn't trying to snap on Ray I just don't understand the negative ways of looking at every thing to do with the game. I gotta get off these forums I'm annoying myself . lol I love the passing engine I thing trading is awesome . I never have seen or thought my playbooks were not running the way I had them, and also I join most leagues that I do to start a dog fight with super teams. Now that's positive . Peace

It is the only way to. This is how the nfl structure is based. And hitting here is nothing like the nfl. Here a pick will fall in to parameters based on the code. One that favors high picks in comparison. Block buster trades dont happen here the sme way. The window is larger for trafes to happen. Thats it. We have more trades. Thats it. Because of cap.

JDB created the parameters. We all play. No fault. No finger pointing. Jusr a loose cap to blame along with the value of a high pick being off.

I am try to nail this on the head. Not muttle it with non sense... slander...please stop inferring negativity.
