There is some new code in place in MFN-1 that, if it looks like you should have plenty of time to score the go-ahead TD/FG, you won't use the timeouts in order to prevent your opponent from having time left on the clock should you score. If you had converted that 4th down you would have probably started using your timeouts then, depending on how well you were moving down the field.

This was actually at the end of the 2Q, I had a first down at opponents 36 with just under 1 minute but seems like I used up the whole clock instead of calling a timeout and then got sacked and that was it

That looks good, teams begin to use them immediately after the 2 minutes have passed and it's often too soon

Just had the same thing happen on MFN-8. Had all 3 of my TO but the only time I called one was with 2 seconds left in the half to kick a FG. I was losing 14-7 at the time so its not like I was content on burning the clock. I would think I should have called a TO once I got the first down on the 29 with about 1 min left.
