Player Weightings (again)

Hey JDB .. yet another question about player weightings.

I have found myself spending A LOT of time just gathering information regarding player weightings. To the point I've had quite a number of groupings (Coach's defaults, my personal, the occasional weightings other owners post, etc) just to get an idea of far off I am in my thinking.

Maybe this is just the side effect of being in 4 leagues but it seems like every weekend I am spreadsheeting more and more information. Maybe I'm being a bit too serious .. but I digress.

My question (finally) is this .. If I just use the coaches defaults going forward, are the updates that are done (say making speed a priority for tackles) also reflected in the "Recommended Weightings" so that is something I don't have to account for?

I really don't think I'm the only one trying to streamline Roster Weightings .. am I???

I don't believe they are reflected in the coach's recommended weights.

For example, when the change was made to significantly increase the importance of max speed for the OL, this new importance was not reflected in the recommended weights.

Which leads me to believe it wasn't reflected in the default weights.

Which leads me to believe it wasn't reflected in the "trade value" for these players.

Basically, I have seen no evidence to suggest the Ai evaluates players differently now than it did in 2014, other than it seems to now take age into consideration when calculating trade value, and doesn't calculate as high of a trade value for punters/kickers as it used to.

Everything else seems the same.

I am thinking of redoing my weights in preparation for the allocation draft in CUST-80.

However, I haven't been able to even start yet because quite frankly I have no idea what each skill even does, let alone which ones are important anymore.

Ex: I used to think pass accuracy was important if I wanted an accurate passer. Now I don't know where to begin, but I know that's not it.

However, I definitely don't want to go with the coach's recommendation because I think they are based on old information, and even then probably weren't any better than other Ai decisions.

The recommended weights, in general, are closer to the 'goal' rather than currently perfectly accurate. Occasionally there are some errors - like WarEagle pointed out where the OL was missing the speed attribute - but for the most part, some aspects of the default weights are less accurate just because the engine doesn't consider them as effectively as I'd like it to.

I will likely run some detailed analysis on the engine at some point and reset the default weights based on what actually does make a player better or worse - but that will be after the engine has really gotten more stable.

I'm not sure how difficult or time consuming this will be for you to do, but it would be great if this was done prior to each new version release.

That way we could be sure that the recommended weights are based on the code we are actually playing with.

In addition, having inaccurate default (or recommended) weights really puts new players at a significant disadvantage because they have not yet learned to disregard them.

"Maybe I'm being a bit too serious"??? This is a silly online game that is a handy diversion for a few minutes a day. Yes, I think you are being WAY too serious tbh.

Have fun and if you win cool, if not, oh well. No one else in your world is likely involved or cares, so perhaps a bit more balance would be in order, haha.

That was a sarcastic comment at that point btw ...

It's all up to you, just the spreadsheets etc was pretty heady stuff for a diversion such as this. However to each his own, and it is not my place to direct how you approach MFN :-)

Can't beat a few nested IF statements and linked-macros on Excel! ;)

And this is what will always separate me from the upper tier of owners in this game. I don't have the desire to export prospects to an excell spread sheet and make my own lists. I use only the stuff in the web browser (which I'm using my phone for most of the time because the site is blocked by DOD computers). I'm also learning that the engine takes everything I know from playing, coaching, and watching football for 30 years, and turns it upside down, so I've made a series of just awful trades believing I'm dealing for guys like Joe Montana and Warren Sapp and instead I'm getting David Carr and Glenn Dorsey. Relying far too much on the AI "overall" rating instead of the all important speed skill at areas that it shouldn't make a lick of difference at has set both teams back several years. I'll learn though......
