In RL most teams will bring in a sub for a few plays if the game is pretty well decided, to give #1s arm a rest, or simply for training. They don't do it to lose games. There are plenty of teams in this game that don't have a franchise QB, where it makes sense to have two or more QBs competing for the starter spot. You will lose games if you try that here. DOtB means the sub will usually miss 6 pass attempts AND throw 2 interceptions before he starts playing normally. A minor adjustment to account for a cold arm or getting into rhythm would be acceptable to avoid rotating QB abuse. (It should be comparable to a minor fatigue penalty, to make it balanced.) This isn't one. This is GAME OVER if you substitute a QB.

I think if we go through a few more seasons with DOtB in place, the talent pool will dry up. GMs simply won't be able train their replacement QBs to 85+ before older QBs degrade or retire.

There was player to player familiarity being tossed around . I not sure if it could be used here to simulate the rhythm part. I think it's more about the starter getting more reps in practice with the first team. The back up is usually practicin with the second team and might not be able to develop the same rhythm with the starters.

All that might be here already with familiarity , but here the qb rotating is so beneficial because of fatigue . Parabolic changes would exasperate the penalty on qbs as it probably directly effects accuracy . I still think a 2 qb system can work in 4.5 .

I'll admit that I don't study things as closely as a lot of player but is QB fatigue in game really that big an issue ?
What should one look for as evidence of it ?

Before DOtB, there was the QB train exploit. Two or more QBs would rotate all game. It made a huge difference in the second half. That's the evidence. That's why JDB made DOtB ridiculous.

There needs to be something in place to stop the exploit, but this isn't it.

Well, IRL once you hit your 3rd string QB, he has to stay in the game, no going back to the 1st or 2nd string guy. At least, that's how NFL rules stood last time I heard it mentioned during a game.

Why all the swapping anyway, was there some bonus when a guy came off the bench?

It was a strategy where GMs wouldn't release off the throttle. Lets say they were running a 100% passing offense. They'd finagle the fatigue setting or other techniques so that effectiveness never wore off. You'd just keep firing and lighting up scoreboards with touchdowns.

Been awhile since those days.

The NFL got rid of that rule in 2011 when they went to the 46 man roster. (They put it in after the body bag game to allow a third QB.) It's not a terrible idea here.
