Reportedly he broke through the line, stomped a back, crushed a safety, bounced off the goalposts, and then put a crack in the the wall. When he came back to the bench he said "Coach, that last guy hit me awful hard."

I had to research it.

Bronko nagurski is one of my favorite players.

Bingo Ray! you got it. Has to be one of, if not the best, football player names in the history of the game, and he looked like a Bronko! lol. What an awesome player he was in that era. Im also thinking that if jdb can do it, have a similar number and names of teams from the NFL 30s thru 50. But not a big deal, there are a lot of teams from that era, beginning with 1930, that are no longer in existence. Cleveland Rams (moved to LA, then St Lou, then back to LA, lol), Boston Yanks (that has to make Red Sox fans grimace), Brooklyn Dodgers, Chicago Cardinals,Frankford Yellow Jackets, was the first year for the GB Packers, Newark Tornadoes, Providence Steam Roller, Portsmouth Spartans, and Staten Island Stapletons. I think it would be fun to have those teams and their logos as part of this league, along with some of the teams from the original NFL formation in the 20s, like the Canton Bulldogs & Jim Thorpe. (He and Nagurski looked pretty similar! and they both have major football awards in their names).

And then there was "Slingin" Sammy Baugh, mentioned by Tarq, who would be considered the first QB to pass as much as hand-off, pitch, or run. Passing began at the college level, and slowly made its way to the pros, where it was used only sparingly by the early 1930s. Baugh is also the only QB in NFL history to also lead the league in punting, which was not a specialized position until the 60s. He also played safety on defense, which included having to take down Nagurski head on when the Skins played the Bears. Tough & rough back then.

This is the star that made the difference for the NFL when it was starting out, he had a couple of great nicknames... "The Galloping Ghost" and "The Iceman" (he delivered ice as a sidejob, back when fridges used blocks of ice). Up until he joined the league, attendance was pretty minimal and college football was the big ticket. Can you name him? w/o googling lol.

here's a great colorized pic, the facemask was just starting to be used, and it changed the game along with helmet development where the use of the head in tackling and hitting evolved. Who was #4?

Considered one of the most brutal hits of all time, Eagles Chuck Bednarik knocked out the Giants Frank Gifford, who was the "glamor boy" of the NFL from USC and later went on to become the well known football announcer on MNF with Cosell & Dandy Don Meredith. This happened during the 50s era. The video of this hit is probably somewhere online or youtube, Bednarik just smashed Gifford. As you guys can probably tell, i love NFL and college history.

Thanks Tarq! it is a great story. Jim Taylor, FB for the Packer champ team under Lombardi, was said to have worked out by pressing against brick walls, until he knocked them down.

The Detroit Lions were the Portsmouth Spartans when the team joined the newly formed NFL in 1930. The team was founded in 1928.
In 1934, the owner of the WJR radio station bought the team, and moved them to Detroit, renaming them the Lions, as a complement to the Detroit Tigers.

If this gets off the ground, I want to play as the:

complete with letters instead of numbers on the jerseys.
