Re: MFN is becoming not worth playing!

That’s what I thought but when 4.5 was released some plays became useless as well. As the last championship I was in both QBs on took on two sacks and one hurry all game. (That’s low)Our qb completed 90 % of all passes...so my point might be slow as WRs are and as fast as DEs are we still managed to find the plays that work. Just like a transition from 4.4 to 4.5 ..... you got to find the money plays .

Don’t get me wrong I pass a lot in the new code and numbers are down (and it looks ugly)but even without rules the run game can be stopped. So to win that leaves the responsibility on creating a good passing game. As those same run stopping plays will get beat by the pass. And those same pass defensive plays will get beat by the run.

Idk, but 4.5 just doesn’t have that and it’s all due to the flattening of the curve or raising zero speed. The code is basically the same as 4.5 besides pass blocking responsibilities and speed end of the pass rush.

Not to defend nothing but the exploitable speed gaps are harder to expose. And smaller guys do get injured more when facing bigger guys. Smirt was playing an elite cb at mlb... really a bunch of small guys and he got stomped.

My question is it worth using all small guys (to gain speed) ? For sure in 4.5 but I am not so sure in beta tests. Again cause of the flattened curve. Yes guys are too slow in general and weight (not hieight) still matters too much but exposing speed like the past is harder for sure. Idk how that could not be good.... especially when passing is tweaked to up the final numbers.

LOL stomped

unprovoked sh*t talking

1986 15-1 Smirt211 Division Champ and I got a Title in Legends (Year 1 of turning to Beta)

Conference Final appearance. Yeah, stomped. Idiot.

Off the thread now.

I thought about this as well when Admiral said in another thread that folks against beta didn't want to lose a competitive edge... I suspect the folks that win the most games now are going to continue to win the most games if they keep playing.

For sure but it won’t be solely to due with an application of speed with less skill ratings. The same guys are near the top but perhaps not so consistently.

But here's the dirty secret. None of us do now. Most people that complain about people exploiting the game to win still get beaten by the same plays using the same personnel packages in leagues that have rules for position and weight, etc.

There are two actual bugs that account for 99% of all "exploits": (1) the 46 Heavy blitz bug where the OL doesn't pick up the LDE (this is the same bug as the Punt Block bug, so I'm not going to even say Punt Block) and (2) the coverage bug on the Hitch where the CB just falls down every 5 plays or so.

The 46 Heavy blocking bug is an exploit, which is why leagues build rules for DL. This is a sensible enough work around. The Hitch bug is easily worked around with game planning.

There are no other speed "exploits" in the game.

Playing all those small guys was provoking enough. You have the right to build a team as you please but the beta changes in a round about way were meant to curb this sort of thing.

Essentially you were running a dime set all game with the personnel applied. I thought it would do better...... the stomping part was just to fire you up to break beta. As a guru such as your self I only expect that and nothing else.

No joke I applaud your courage to take your approach into beta and try to win.....not lose or just experiment. That’s the users beta needs someone as passionate as you and gifted as well. If the rolls were bad and most likely they were do it again next season and win .

I'm not stupid. I know what JDB engineered and wanted to avoid. Essentially, any lightweight player on the line of scrimmage = ended. Notice you stated MLB #1. Yep, keep the 95/95 speed CB guys far off the line and you can product place them anywhere you want. JDB messed with the engineering that produced punt blocks and that 46 Heavy Blitz. You gotta dance around the bullets and still do your thing.

I got pissed and am trying to break the code/game on offense. Deep tactic but need a full season to see if it works.

...and thanks for the props :)

Players that win are generally those that put in the time and effort. That hasn't changed and neither should it. The difference is, they can be beaten because you can gameplan to stop them.

Out of interest, do you think the Leagues with a multitude of side rules are fairer and more competitive (all using 4.5 software engine by the way). I think they are and wouldn't be against moving the coding to incorporate some/all of those changes. I think that shows how a 'hive' mind mentality can improve on a concept.

No-one is saying BETA is the finished product, everyone agrees that somehow passing needs to be improved (and in particular being able to throw the deep ball 2 or 3 times a game). The people that play BETA and Roster Only do so because they feel they get a fairer crack of the whip. In general, the people that don't play BETA and Roster Only don't feel they can control the sim in the same way as 4.5.

My real bug bear with 4.5 is everyone plays it the same way - FL Hitch, Skinny post corner, PA Fullback flat, HB Flare, Streak Heavy with four or five runs to the left (mostly inside runs). And on D they play MLB Flat zone and maybe four other plays - the result, the team with the fastest players who hit the most correct plays generally wins (yes, I know I'm simplifying to an extent). It's boring. I want to see games where owners open up the playbook and have differing strategies and owners are prepared to do that.

The Leagues with the side rules are closer to where the game should be (my opinion) and (again, my opinion) BETA is closer to where the game should be than 4.5. Some of the best coaches in MFN play BETA and they will tell you it's not simply a case of plug'n'play the same gameplan, if your predictable the better teams will eat you up - whereas in 4.5, you can be predictable but you can't be stopped no matter who has the 'better' players or the correct strategies to theoretically stop the killer plays.

It should be built in to the game to prevent everyone from playing players out of position. Sorry if you need to game the system by using every exploit you can find you are not a good coach you are a cheat. This game is so full of exploits and rewards those that use them instead of those who try to build a legitimate team and play the game as intended. Something needs to be done or coaches will continue to leave.

Agreed. Fixing player generation would fix this. Right now the best linebackers in every draft are defensive ends. The best ends are linebackers
