coordinators

Can anyone give me a simple explanation on the role of coordinators in playcalling? I know teams pick plays from the head coach's playbook, but should the o or d coordinators philosophies match the head coach, or is it really just cosmetic and has no influence on which plays get called at all?

I know my team's offensive struggles are partly tied to 4.6, but just wondering if for example I had both a west coast oriented HC and o coordinator they'd call more pass plays, or heavy 3-4 man HC and d coordinator that would lead to more specific defensive plays being called. Just trying to figure out if anything matters when evaluating coaches for coordinators (or really any coaching spot besides HC). Thanks.

It matters if you keep your coaches in house. Eventually you will move on from your current HC, and when you do, the easiest course of action is to promote from within.

Coordinators contribute to the player's overall gain/loss in attributes but not very much. Head coach has the most influence, obviously. I don't think coordinators factor in the play calling.

Copied and pasted from the MFN Tour https://www.myfootballnow.com/tour

Coach Page

In MyFootballNow, you have full control over your coaching staff. Your head coach determines your playbook, and all your players will develop their attributes based on the skills of your coaching staff. You can make changes to your coaching staff at any time, and during the offseason you can even hire a coach from another team as long as you are offering him a promotion.

This is copied from the MFN Blog https://blog.myfootballnow.com/2013/

During training camp and each game stage, your players will improve in their attributes. This is tied directly to their coaching staff hierarchy above them. The influence of his position coach is 20%, his coordinator's influence is 30%, and his head coach's influence is 50%. Kickers have a 50/50 split between head coach and kicker's coach. The more influence a player has from his coaching staff, the faster his current value will approach his future value

I knew the coaches mainly help with developing attributes - if you need to improve a QB's accuracy, look for 100 accuracy HCs, OCs and QB coaches, etc. Is it only in training camp or is there any in-season improvement?

It sounds like coordinators don't have any role in playcalling, so just look for the playbook you like the most and get as many of those coaches as you can to keep them in house and promote from within as necessary? Does anyone have an opinion on which offensive and defensive styles seem to be working best in 4.6?

Most playbooks are pretty similar, I'm sure there is a Setherick post about that somewhere in the forums.

Coordinators have no role in playcalling. Your playbook is limited to the HC's offensive and defensive philosophies.

There isn't yet. I haven't compiled what plays are in the Pass Focused offense (I only need the base formations 104 Shotgun, 113 Slot Strong, etc.)

I basically only use the Run Focused or Gen Balanced on offense.

Interesting. I thought I had read in an old forum post (unsure if it was yours seth) that possession offense was the most successful - has that changed? With neutered passing in 4.6 it seems like run oriented offense (and defense?) would be the smartest choice, but generally balanced would at least keep the defense honest.
