QB play

Looking for everyone's opinion of the TRUE key attributes of a successful QB. Mine is a perennial all pro by ratings...but he's a joke on the field.

But QB weights depend so much on your OL and your WRs. Great WRs will cover up some bad attributes. Great OL play will keep your QB from needing attributes like Speed, Scramble, Break Tackle or Ball Carry.

Then there is your play calling. I use a lot of short passes. This means I don't always need a strong armed QB because the only benefit I'm going to get is him rocketing passes into the receiver from 6-8 yards away.

In sum, your QB is only going to play as good as the rest of your team. You can have a 100 everything QB, and he's going to **** if you can't pass block or have good WRs.

Release in terms of decision making is Passing Release. Arm controls velocity after it has left the hand. :)

My O line and WRs are good. I feel like there is some hidden attribute perhaps. I see much lower rated QBs in my league killing it with similar or weaker O line and WRs than mine.

One thing I noticed immediately was that two of your OL have OK, but not great, Pass Block:

LG 1 - 68
RT 1 - 59

The reason that this matters is that pass blocking against the DL tends to be all or nothing. If one OL gives up a block, it's very likely that the entire OL is going to drop their hands and let the DL come rushing in. Even if this doesn't happen, having a sub-70 Pass Block G and sub-60 Pass Block T will mean that you will be getting a lot of QB pressure each time he drops back. Getting pressured is just as bad as being sacked since it reduces QB effectiveness by a lot.

The next thing I would do is work on your play selection. I didn't go through all of your game logs, but looking at your season stats shows some immediate red flags. You have a decent TE, but he only has 7 catches for the year. If you want a really effective, turnover free QB, you're going to need to find the passing plays that distribute the ball to the TE (and WRs) in space and let them work. If I had to guess, you're probably calling too many Medium passing plays and passing plays that don't properly clear out passing lanes.

Point well taken. I do have playbook limitations that concern me. New question...HC or OC which brings the playbook ? As a note, while watching my sims, a lot of bad QB play comes without visible pressure. Im guessing the program picks up pressure that inst seen visually due to pass blocking stats ??

Head Coach supplies the playbook. And, yes, it's best to strengthen your pass blocking as much as you can. There's all sort of factors that can come with poor QB play, though. Accuracy, play knowledge...

So I would caution one thing about play knowledge. Play knowledge allows players to be more effective in certain plays, but it doesn't make the play itself effective. Effective plays become more effective as players gain knowledge about how to execute them. Ineffective plays stay ineffective despite how much knowledge a player gains. Otherwise, those 113 shotgun runs that everyone ever generated in the game has 100 knowledge of would destroy leagues. Instead, they gain negative yards per carry.

Oh, yes, absolutely. You have to be observant and see which offensive plays are producing. I'll notice certain plays spike, however, overall there's steady plays across the sets you'll want to select and grow!

Setherick has always loved those Shotgun Dives. lol
