Trade away all your star players in the first year for as many picks as you can. Gamble on all those picks. Trade away your star players from the next year's draft for more high picks. And repeat.

I mean it is a strategy. But it's hard to sustain after many years because you'll run into cap issues with signing players and trading them.

Congrats on accumulating the 1st round picks, however, you have also created a lot of concern about it that Im aware of through pms from other owners in the league, to the extent of potentially dropping their team(s) as a result. Not your fault, dont blame you for doing so, but that's the reality. It's similar to being criticized for using an "exploit" or limited play selection, which I and several others have experienced. Strength of roster accounts for around 40% of the game IMHO, but when it comes down to owners being equal as far as gameplanning and successful experience, then the roster strength becomes much more important and a deciding factor.

To gdad's point here, I won 7 games with a $60m roster, and I lost at least 3 games that I should have won with better game planning.

The struggle with game planning is that it takes several seasons playing to accumulate enough knowledge about how the game works to really be successful winning through game planning alone, and even then, you're going to lose a lot of games just being outgunned (or getting RNG'ed -- gotta love throwing 5 INTs in a quarter for instance).

My advice has always been this:

1) Find plays that make positive yards
2) Keep 40 plays in your playbook
3) Move players to the right positions to make those plays work the most effectively

If you do those things, you don't have to worry about how good your overall roster is because the right players are in the right place to make the right plays.

Which was the point of my initial comment. The cap issues for Carolina are here and now. It projects to have only $30M in cap space to sign at least $60M worth of 1st rd picks. It will need to spend much more if the picks are high 1st rd picks. Will it be bailed out by one or more GMs who fail to understand that as many as four of those 8 1st rd draft picks will likely be free agents. In any event, it should be a buyer's market for any of Carolina's picks/players.

Having said all that, kudos to Carolina for succeeding so far with its trading strategy.

Just as we limit owners' ability to trade all of their 1st rd picks, maybe we should limit how many 1st rd draft choices can be accumulated by one team at at one time - whether for a single season or for three seasons.
