I believe so. In that situation, you are claiming the player's contract.

Think of a bonus as handing it all to him in a suitcase at the table when he signs the contract.
When he leaves that table with the money, he isn't giving it back. He went and bought a big pink Cadillac with it. Only cap wise does it get spread out through the length of the contract. Until you get rid of him for any reason. Then the rest of it counts the following year.(dead cap)
