A 1st and a 3rd round pick might be a bit steep for a good but not great DT...

< 75 SP = check
< 75 AC = check
< 90 ST = check

I wouldn't have paid a 1st for this guy without getting additional picks in return. I drafted a better, if slower, player in round 3 of the last draft.

Here is my thought process. I am still learning, but I am also still very happy to receive Ramos.

Ramos is in his 4th season. So by adding him, I shore up my DL for the next 5-6 years without having to draft someone unless I can find them in the late rounds. He's not as strong and slower than what is to be expected, but he is a known entity. And by this, I mean I was looking at the draft. Only three Defensive Lineman (out of 15 through 3 rounds) ended up with better ratings than him. 1 in each of the first three rounds. His position skills are better than the one in the third round and I was the one who drafted the one in the 2nd round.

So I was willing to give up a first and third (three seasons from now) to get a guy that would have been a top 3 DL in this year's draft. And the optimism factor played into my decision. I am optimistic that by 1985 season, I will have improved this team more and the pick would be later in the first round

It looks like you already made him a DE, which is what I would have done with him since you're running a 4-3. If you were running a 3-4, I'd make him a WLB to drop his weight as low as possible and make him a SLB.

Sorry, I accidentally submitted my comment before finishing it. I updated it above

Holy minimization BATMAN!
If Ramos this "good but not great DT" would have went to waivers I'd be willing to bet 20 gm's would have bid on him....and had he been released earlier would have caused a bidding war in early FA probably 100 million or more bid by some! lol

This is just two new GM's working out a deal tohelpeach other. Ramos is established and now playing for a better GM that recognizes his talents. The Bears cut 5 million from there cap and managed to get some value out of a player rather than just cut and dump. I don't disagree that a #1 was a bit costly but the trade would not go through. I'm happy to see two new GM's learning.................................................................MM
