Never saw something like that this late into a season, so I want to question it.

I would say part of that is the contribution of defense priority teams. The league used to be torn up by offensive juggernauts to the point where you had the boast a number 1 ranked defense in order to TRY to stop the juggernaut offenses.
The rise of the defense has significantly increased now that most of the juggernaut offensive unit owners have left the league. Because of that, if you don’t know how the properly set up an offense, your offense will get whipped. Hence the high interception/turnover totals.

I agree with all of your points. It's those shifts, i think, that keep the game moving and changing.
