This is the time of year where things start to shake out and the undefeated watch begins. $ weeks in and 4 undefeated teams left. Denver, NY Jets, New Orleans and Carolina. Teams will be taking shots at them to knock em off for sure. Who doesn't want to be the team to give their opponents their first loss. That's always a sweet victory. Now on to the rest of the league.
AFC West Denver(4-0) maintains their slim lead over San Diego(3-1) as they both win. The Chargers busted out a 47 point win over Pittsburgh. Oakland(2-2) wins their 2nd straight with a barnburner of a game against Jacksonville. Kansas City(1-3) lost their 3rd straight to drop to the bottom of the Wild Wild West.
East The surprising story called the NY Jets(4-0) continues as they win with defense again with a win over New England(1-3). They are giving up a lil over 8 pts per game. Miami(3-1) keeps pace with their 3rd straight with a win over Buffalo(1-3) to mirror the Broncos/Chargers race. The Jets and Dolphins will face off this coming week in a Battle Royale game.
North This has been a strange start to the season for the AFC North. Usually the story goes either Cleveland or Cincinnati or both jump out to a 4-0 start and the race is on. But this season Cleveland(2-2) and Cincinnati(2-2) have stumbled themselves into the North lead. Neither Pittsburgh(1-3) nor Baltimore(1-3) have been able to get anything going to really challenge them. That being said their both only 1 game back.
South Houston(3-1) gets upset by Philly but maintain a 2 game lead in the South over Tennessee(1-3), Jacksonville(1-3) and Indianapolis(1-3) who won their first game of the season.
NFC East Washington(2-2) wins their 2nd in a row and with Philadelphia's(2-2) upset win over Houston the Eagles remain tied with the Redskins for the division lead. Dallas(1-3) is duplicating last years struggling start and the NY Giants(0-4) is having a disastrous start to their season.
West Seattle(3-1) regains control in the West with a convincing win over a tough Kansas City squad. Los Angeles(2-2) beats Arizona(2-2) to knot up the second spot with San Francisco(2-2) losing their 2nd consecutive.
North Detroit(3-1) wins the Battle Royale over Green Bay(2-2) @ Lambeau Field. Chicago(1-3) won the game of the winless over Minnesota(0-4) to crawl out of the cellar.
South This division is hot to start the 1979 campaign. New Orleans(4-0) continues to win and win big. And with Carolina(4-0) blanking the 49ers the two head into week 5 undefeated and tied for the division lead. Tampa Bay(3-1) takes last weeks loss out on Dallas with a 51 point win and Atlanta(2-2) loses a tough one in overtime to the defending Super Bowl Champs Cleveland. The spot light will be on the NFC South this week as the four will all face off against each other.
Games to Watch in Week 5 Arizona @ Denver Los Angeles @ Kansas City Houston @ Oakland New Orleans @ Atlanta Tampa Bay @ Carolina - Battle Royale Miami @ NY Jets - Battle Royale Washington @ Green Bay
GG Chargers, 3 more picks and giving up 50 twice in 4 games .ROUGH !!!
We hit on all cylinders for the first time this season. Offense, defense and special team were all fabulous. But this game humbles us all sooner or later.
The season is young and there is plenty of time to turn things around. You might try to diversify your play calling a bit. There were quite a few instances where there was a comment that either an offensive play or a defensive play was being called too often. Otherwise, hang in there, cyclone.
