NY Giants Blocked Punt

It appears that the Giants blocked a punt in its just concluded game against the Eagles using a CB on the defensive line - which is against he rules. At the time, the score was tied and the Giants scored on a FG after gaining favorable field position.

In mitigation of the rule violation, the Giants' GM reported the violation before anyone pointed it our. Based on the explanation given, the violation appears to be inadvertent. The GM also said he would understand if he was suspended from the game.

Due to the mitigating factor and the fact that the game was probably not decided by the FG scored off the blocked punt, I propose to "punish" the Giants taking away its 7th rd draft choice in the next draft. The punishment will be implemented by the Giants agreeing not to sign the player drafted, that is void the contract of its 7th rd draft choice. Please note that the Giants have two 7th rd draft choices in the upcoming draft, so the punishment shall apply to to higher of the two 7th rd draft choices selected and the Giants may therefore not trade that selection.

Unless there is an overwhelming negative response to the handling of this violation in such a manner, that will be the ruling. Please weigh in if you feel strongly that it should be dealt with differently.

It's a fair ruling IME, but it actually happened TWICE resulting in 10 points (4:531Q and 12:21 4Q)

If you feel it was a fair ruling despite my misunderstanding, then it will stand. Thank you for clearing it up. Good luck the rest of the way.

Not sure why the guy should be punished if the fault was ''inadvertent'' .... let's move on ....

I agree with the decision. I have had substitutions that violated the rules this season as well. I did not add them as overrides. I cannot be sure, but I think it may have occurred as the result of injury & fatigue. Non of the substitutions had an effect on the outcome of the play. two occasions had my third string LB Martinez subbing at RDE and he is only 231 lbs. I did explore moving him there in preseason. He was a CB for Jacksonville from 76 to 84 and Jacksonville released him as a SLB and I did not change his position, nor insert him at DE after the first game, he did not do well. The other (that I know about) was WR Brown was inserted at CB on 2 occasions and had a tackle. once again I did not put him there, At one point this season, We had 4 of 7 DL with some type of injury, and 4 of 9 DB's hurt as well? It's going to happen. So, we as grown ups, will deal with it. I am big mitch fan! A stand up guy from what I know of him in the game. I don't believe he would pull anything shady. I also understand and support the need to take action against exploits and those who would abuse the system. I think, (and I'm not mitch) it's a fair, and necessary penalty, to show that the league means business. I am in 2 other leagues that modeled their rules after Paydirts. On 2 occasions, a GM was caught over 4-5 games with multiple infractions, one warning and then asked to leave. I think that mitch will survive the penalty, it's good for the health of Paydirt. I could be wrong, but I think these issues will be dealt with in the next version, and there will be another batch of exploits to deal with. I am happy to have the chance to be able to debate the issues. I'm pretty sure that most of us have experienced the public leagues and the challenges that were involved. enough said....................................................MM

I'm not sure if you intended to keep him, but please cut your 7-19 draft pick as we implement the punishment for using your CB to block punts. The player to cut is WR Malloy. Thanks.
