1-13: Douglas Adkins (WLB) +7/+2 (45/83)
Although Miami’s biggest need was possibly finding a quarterback in the draft, the linebacker position was also an area to address and Miami scored with the selection of Douglas Adkins. He will most likely be an immediate starter in the Miami defense that could be on the upward trend.
1-27: Neil Wilson (WR) +9/+1 (49/82)
Reportedly, Miami had reached out to 9 teams in an attempt to draft the TCU product and it looks like Miami will have no regrets over that pick. Aside from James Fountain, most of that receiving group has aged so adding some youth to that offense will hopefully make the pass offense more effective in an era where the run is the way to go.
2-14: Robin Glenn (RB) +13/+7 (40/76)
Originally drafted as a FB, Robin Glenn could be a huge steal to help out the Miami run game. He will most likely play behind Mark Finley, but I’d say evening out the snap counts between the 2 RBs and you could have a dangerous pair in the backfield.
2-23: Sheldon Johnson (WR) +10/+2 (43/76)
Although reports are coming out that Miami drafted him to prevent an AFC East rival from drafting him, he should still be a productive player. Miami already added one elite receiver in the first round and now add another possible elite receiver to give offense no excuses for failure.
5-30: Robert Kohlmeler (TE) +9/+1 (26/47)
Lack of strength could be an issue with this pick, he might have more use as a receiving tight end. Long shot to make the roster but there’s preseason to help make a case.
6-14: Ricky Booker (RG) +8/-3 (51/74)
Originally drafted as a RB, converted to OL, he should be a very solid backup if there is room for him in the final 53 man roster.
6-30: Robert Fenner (CB) +3/-3 (27/45)
Probably Miami’s first and only miss in the entire draft. Fenner will most likely be a first cut if there is a need found in waiver wire.
7-13 Matt Glaser (K) +10/+9 (54/86)
Fans were surprised when Miami let Julio Sitz walk in free agency. Well, Miami found a new franchise kicker that can hopefully convert a higher percentage of extra points and field goals.
7-30: Willie Sanders (DT) +1/+2 (35/54)
Another long shot to make the roster but there’s always a chance.
Undrafted Free Agents:
Thomas Holley (FB) +5/-1 (30/60)
Meh, unlikely to get the FB position but worth a try on a one year deal.
Rene Burbank (WR) +3/+1 (38/52)
He might try out at RB. Future remains unknown.
Notable trades:
Cleveland Browns sent:
Tim Farrelly (TE) (75/75)
Jeremy Hochstetler (QB) (89/89)
Miami Dolphins sent:
Christopher Smith (TE) (69/74)
1994 3rd rounder
1995 1st rounder
All those receivers and backs that Miami had selected, all to give Jeremy Hochstetler a massive amount of offensive weapons to work with. Maybe the he’s the quarterback that can solve Miami’s QB woes of the past.
Summary:
My first 4 picks turned out to be massive hits and will definitely end up being long term answers at their respective positions. A lot of my 1994 and 1995 draft capitol was spent on being able to make the trades I did and the picks I made, but if we get playoff seasons as a result of this, the 1993 season will easily be the best season Miami has had in so many years.
