Trading?

Wondering if you were going to have limits on trades or any other rules you might have in place? In another private league they held voting on a couple things. Trading was one of them and it resulted in no trading at all. I don't think that should be the case here but maybe some limits on total amount of trades per season and or limiting 1st round pics.

Just throwing some ideas out there, it really don't matter much to me but it's something to think about.

I'm with you on this. I love league trading but we'll need to have some sort of restrictions in place.

I like the idea of restricting the amount of 1st rounders a team can have in a given season.
Also I'd like to restrict how many times teams can trade with each other in a season. To prevent colluding.

Here's what I had in mind on the process of rules:
We're gonna have a 3 member "Competition Committee" voted in by each conference. 1 rep from the AFC voted in by just AFC GM's and the same for the NFC plus myself. They will vote on rules

Any GM in the league can present an idea for the committee to vote on. Which will take place the week after the trade deadline. With exception of this opening season of course. I'll get a foundation in place before week 1 with help from you guys.

I have a few more on my list but I have to go grille up some food cause everyone is giving me their hungry story. lol

I don't mind trading it's part of the NFL! I dislike trading during the allocation draft.

jdb got back with me and said that rookie GM's are still under their normal trade restrictions in private leagues. The same as they would be in a public one.

So we better get this convo started. As others join the league they can Chime in.
I'm guessing we could have a few rookie GM's with a new league.

So how do you guys want to handle trading in the first season?

No trading in 1970? Starts the first week of free agency in 1971.
Trading begins starting week 2 of the regular season in 1970?
Or something else?

Ya, first one is what blackflys had brought up with restricting how many first rounders a team can have in a given year.

For me, teams shouldn't have more than 2 first and two second rounders per season. This could also encourage more upper round trading. If a team already has 2 picks in say the first round and they get offered an pick that would move him up in that round, he'll have to move one of his other first rounders to do so. We could see more 3 teams deals being made this way.

Another one is limiting the amount of trades between two teams in a season. This is to prevent colluding. There might be trades where I will void to have a chance to review it. Then if it looks good have those teams involved resubmit it.

One that I want to put into place is that free agents can't be traded during the season he was picked up. So teams can't snipe a FA just to use him as trade bait.

Is there any that your think of?

I think it's a solid plan. One thing I will bring up about colluding is being extra selective while accepting owners into the league. Meaning as time winds down and push to fill the league maybe have a couple guys with some knowledge of who's active and so on. Recommendations can go a long way in a situation like this.

Another thing with trading is there could be a rule of what age players have to be in order to acquire a first or second. This is a big deal considering yellow made a name by doing this. Although it might have been with himself he still fooled a lot of people for a long time.

To acquire first or second rd pics players in the deal cannot exceed 5 or 6 years experience.
