Maybe it’s possible that ignorance is bliss? I can still remember v4.5, and while it had a more explosive passing game, I seem to recall it also being exploited and exposed for every little cheat it was worth. I’ve only been in the game a little over a year and avoided burning out by keeping my total team count at 2 or 3, whereas it seems almost everyone else plays more than a single handful.
But another myth I have noticed is that everyone assumes the “veteran” masters will continue to be exactly that. Is it possible the OG’s are a little stuck in their ways or reminiscing about the “good old days”. I could be totally wrong, but 3 of the most successful managers recently in the leagues I do play are in the same ballpark of experience as I am. Hammond and Lemon are pretty much kicking names and taking *** wherever I look. Granted they are both new to this league this season, but with grandad, warthog, b$dog, raymattison and others in place here it could be an interesting challenge to see who really has a better handle on this current version.
I take all the advice I can get wherever it comes from, but I do have to wonder sometimes about how much of it actually pertains to the here and now when I see other things working better for newer players. Time to go all Darwin and adapt or die? I totally get it that winning isn’t everything when it comes to enjoying a game. And this version is certainly frustrating, and I’m certain that is multiplied exponentially for those that experienced more open game planning in older versions. Perhaps JDB’s best hope is to drive the old guard away and repopulate the sim with rookies who don’t know any better for better or worse?
Except that JDB is kowtowing to the veterans. The things I used to do to compete with CJ and Smirt have been nerfed. I could look forward to the draft, but that has been nerfed as well. The only thing left to me is to give up and go away, which is probably what JDB wants.
Trust me, the "good old days" were never that good. 4.5 gave the little people some hope, but the same people ruled the roost then as well. I'm not disrespecting their effort, but the game is no fun for the rest of us. The ruling elites will be left lording themselves over anthills, but that will be cold comfort to me.
