It’s that time again, for the first time in a few seasons, I actually had draft picks. Let’s find out if I really did miss drafting or not starting with the first overall pick:
1-1: Wesley Kopf (TE) +14/-2
Kopf was the safest TE in the draft, even if he loses stats he wouldn’t drop significantly. Kopf is absolutely going to be an upgrade as a receiving TE and will provide the Dolphins with 2 top level TEs for several seasons. More weapons to add to an already elite offense. Hopefully now the Miami offense can stop hitting the “blue screen of death” in the playoffs.
2-10: Rodney Sutton (SLB) +6/+8
For whatever reason, I have this talent for striking gold with high volatility players in round 2. Rodney Sutton is another player to add to that list of players. Sutton will fill in the role left behind because of the Adam Northington trade. An excellent round 2 find.
3-32: Dennis Reeves (RB) +5/+5
What’s up with Miami selecting QBs and changing them into RBs? What Dennis Reeves lacks in arm strength for a QB will hopefully be made up with by his speed, acceleration, and strength as an RB. Miami is stacked on the RB position so it might be a roster spot fight for Reeves.
4-27: Stanley Green (LG) +2/-1
Not a lot of good options left in the late 4th round. Stanley Green will have to fight for a backup spot due to the stacked offensive line.
5-24: Thomas Taylor (WR) 0/-1
Thomas Taylor may have to fight for a roster spot as a returner. With electric speed and return abilities it might be his only chance although he has a mountain to climb if he wants to beat Louis Moore.
5-25: Stanley Goldsmith (FS) +2/0
His tackling ability is the only thing that stands out about Goldsmith. He could possibly play as the backup SS but used more for blitz and run stopping packages.
5-27: Timothy Crosby (TE) +3/-2
Unless Crosby can be used in another position, he might end up being an early preseason cut. The roster is full of studs on offense and defense and Crosby might end up drowning as a result of the talent.
6-11: Donald Kolb (TE) +4/+3
Kolb could be a nice find in the 6th round but once again, could end up drowning due to a lack of roster availability.
6-24: Pedro Madison (QB) 0/-14
Yeah… he’s gonna get cut before the preseason.
6-27: Anthony Holt (LT) +2/-2
Another player who will most likely get cut before the preseason if he can’t find his spot in the roster.
7-24: Clarence Williams (MLB) +4/+3
Unfortunately he will most likely not fit into the defensive system and he might be out of the roster before the preseason.
Summary: The first 3 picks were big finds and will be contributing the roster immediately. As much as I don’t like drafting, this was a draft that I figured would a very safe draft with possible late round steals. Was it worth trading what I traded away to get those draft picks? I’ll find out in the next couple of seasons.
