First of congrats to Warthog on capturing the 1971 Crown. A tremndous undefeated season. There will be a party in the dot land of Cleveland for the next few days for sure. Reigning champ blackflys had another great season falling just short of a repeat.
Season Recap
AFC East
setherick is oh so close to grabbing the crown for Kansas City with both jgcruz and Wolveraider on his tail in the AFC West. ktitusteam has his work cut out for him in Denver. Not a good division to have to rebuild in. But if Denver does it will be the utmost rewarding to take down those tough top 3.
AFC East
In the AFC East it was rookie GM of the year botasiac taking over and saving the Patriots and winning a playoff game to boot. But better not easy off the pedal cause Kordaiin and his Buffalo Bills were the story in 1971. As with Denver kuder51 has his work cut out for him as well in Miami. I think Buffalo has shown all that it can be done. The East's biggest threat will be over at Shea Stadium and the Jets. Nobody loves their team more than Gustoon loves his Jets. You may like your team as much but not possible to like em more. I expect those Jets will be contending for the East title in the years to come.
AFC North
The division where the undefeated champions reign. Both Cincinnati with voegma and Pittsburgh with trslick have well built teams with top notch GM's and are not too far off. It will be a mountain to climb to knock off Warthog's Cleveland Browns, but I believe all the lountains on this Earth have been climbed and so can this one. UKRAIN in Baltimore has the most amount of feet to climb but you do it one step at a time.
AFC South
This division is the one most up for grabs. Maybe I should rethink this cause this division has been in the hands of otterpops Jacksonville Jaguars since Paydirt's conception. Salty_Watermelon in Houston has improved by 2 games over 1970 and we'll see how much pressure new GM's DJsim22 in Indianapolis and TheBuddhaBoy in Tennessee can put on Jacksonville in the next few seasons.
NFC East
1970 defending champions Washington Redskins have owned not only this division but the conference as well. And I don't think blackflys intends to give it up anytime soon. That being said rookie GM of the Philadelphia Eagles spazzm came into the league like a house on fire and had my vote for Rookie GM of the Year. He took down Washington in their first meeting and only lost by 5 in their second. Dlegend with the Giants went from 1-15 in 1970 to 8-8 in 1971. The Cowboys with GM TXBearFan have had 6 wins in both 70' and 71'. They're looking for something to get them over the hump.
NFC West
Pernbronze's 49ers took a pretty big step backwards from their 15 win season last year. That being said they still took home the brass winning the division for the second year in a row. But in comes raymattison21 to Los Angeles. He's been known to turn around a franchise or two and knows this game inside and out. The NorCal / SoCal rivalry begins. Both Arizona with GM brendosault and awest827 up north in Seattle still have a lot of work to do to turn things around as well. But it can strike like lightning in a bottle.
NFC North
The Chicago Bears with Crimsonwolfz at the helm made one heck of a surge forward by surprising powerhouse GM chinaski's Detroit Lions in 1971. It came down to the last week of the regular season for chinaski to claim his second NFC North title. But in the end Chicago got the last laugh as they defeated Detroit in the divisional round in what may have been the best playoff game of the year. I think we have a new rivalry in the North. Dorichm's Vikings had a rough season at 6-9-1 but nobody in Paydirt had a rougher year than the Grenn Bay Packers GM r3g4nj4k3. They went from contending in the North in 1970 with a 11-5 record and a playoff birth to a 2 -14 record in 1971.
NFC South
Prolly the most entertaining division in Paydirt. DougSupreme(Tampa Bay) and jouameng(Carolina) have been going at it for the division title tooth and nail. They each grabbed a title which went down to their final week of the regular season. Now insert Mcarovil in New Orleans. I don't know what else to say but this will be a fun division to watch. The Atlanta Falcons with King0429 improved by a game over the season before. They did knock off Tampa Bay, New Orleans and Pittsburgh so you can't go to sleep on them. They also played some tough teams close in a few of their losses.
We had some awesome additions to the league this year that will make it even tougher next year. With the additions of spazzm in Philly, Mcarovil in New Orleans, botasiac in New England, Gustoon with his beloved Jets, raymattison21 taking over in Los Angeles, DJsim22 at Indy and ktitusteam trying to rebuild at the mile high in Denver. And starting out in 1972 new GM TheBuddhaKid will get his feet wet here at Paydirt.
I want to thank everyone on a great season this year. It was really fun to watch. We had some powerhouse teams that were close but no cigar. We can only have one champion. But we do have some strong teams and some teams that I think are built in a way that will come up and be in the mix soon. I can't wait to see how free agency and the draft plays out. If 1972 is anything like the last two seasons, I can't wait.
Cheers
