why are we against tanking???
To awest827:Sorry awest. Didn't mean to come across as disrespecting you. Yes you did and are making a splash in the off-season imo. And you did do well there after you realized there was no tanking allowed. When I send trades to CC it's on it's own merrit. I don't care how well a GM involved is doing or who the GM is for that matter. Each trade stands on it's own. 9 times out of 10 a trade going to CC is prolly gonna pass anyways. If it gets rejected no worries. Nobody is in trouble. Just work out another trade.
To botasiac:When I answer this question, it is not to dis any GM or any other league in MFN. So please keep that in mind.
Trying to lose goes against all things competition and sportsmanship. This league is setup for exactly those two things. And of course the most important having fun part. Each GM in Paydirt is expected to hold themselves to a high standard. Not by wins and losses but by integrity. The wins and losses fall into the fun category. I realize as many GM's do, that there are several different ways to tank. Some of which are almost impossible for us to detect. It is really up to each GM to make this league fun for themselves and their fellow GM's.
Tanking does one of many things. One is that it is nice to win and all, but if a team is tanking against you it sucks when you've game planned, watched film etc... expecting you opponent to try and beat you, then to find out he tanked. Makes it feel like a big waste of their time and no fun. Nobody with a genuine competitive spirit wants someone to give them the win. They want to beat you. That's the whole reason were here playing a pretend game is our competitive spirits.
Tanking also has an adverse effect on teams your not even playing. It can make a difference in a team making or not making the playoffs by letting a team win. Talk about making another GM mad.
If you guys take a look at the top GM's in MFN they all win regularly year in and year out. There's a reason for that. Without spilling too much strategy, just watch and study how they do things. This game has a lot of different ways to get a team built the way you want it. And they know how to use em. They know what they're doing. Instead of tanking go study em. That's going to get you to the top much quicker anyways.
Another things is that this league is all about stats. When a GM tanks it taints the stats, which can taint awards etc.... Then they become irrelevant which then becomes a big waste of time for me to keep track of.
And last but not least cause a book could be written about this stuff. Tanking makes the league look cheap. This league is full of quality GM's and I want this league to look as high quality for them as I can.
And quality again, doesn't mean their win and loss record or how long they've been in MFN. That's why I don't hesitate to give GM's that are new to MFN a chance here. Cause they might be a high quality GM even though they are still learning this game. So far it's paid off cause we have some quality GM's here that have less than a year under their belt in MFN.
Hire n Fire rule:
Since I got a book going on here I want to add this about our "Hire n Fire" rule that we have in place to not only prevent tanking but to add a lil fun and realism to the mix. Which was voted in by our GM's.
If any GM gets fired (and there will be one eventually somewhere down the line), do not take it personally or feel that your being kicked out of the league or that it's permanent. You only get in line to be hired by a new team just like real life.
Another player named firefly came up with this idea in a league from another sim and it was pretty darn fun. I believe they still do it. I was in line to be fired a couple of times but barely hung on. They did it differently than we have it set up here cause of the type of game it was. They could sim a complete season on the side. And if you didn't meet those expectations you got a strike. Three strikes and you got fired. Of course we can't do that so we have things setup differently but the outcome will be the same. It should be fun.
