Carolina is getting an outstanding DT in Smith, who has been an animal inside these last two season. After receiving Caffee in a trade with Jacksonville they immediately dish him off to Green Bay.

The Packers are getting a speed rusher in LB Caffee. Although unproven he has the speed and skills to cause problems in the backfield. But the Packers are gonna have to be creative, as Caffee will have a hard time getting off his blocks with those skinny arms of his. I like this trade for Carolina but the story isn't over yet as the Panthers immediately put Smith on the block. Looks like another trade-bait trade in the making.

I think GB skunked Carolina on this one.

GB gets two relatively young and promising LBs who are signed well into the future.

Carolina gets a 10 year vet with a one year contract and who might want big money for a multiple year deal thereafter and a 3rd round draft choice that's likely to produce a player who is no better than either of the one's given up.

But, to each his own.

Usually I'd agree with Cruz, but I don't like this trade for either team. Neither Speakman nor Caffee are worth a 3, but Carolina gambles that Smith plays 5 more years as a rotational player and they can land someone with that 3. That might be hard enough. Round 3 looks sketchy.

My rational was that both LB's weren't going to start for me. Sheldon was too average for my taste and Speakman, who I felt was just too slow, was just a flier signing. Don't get me wrong, depth never hurts, but I'd rather have depth on the DLine than in my LB core. As old as Smith is, he has the speed, acceleration, and strength combo to rotate as a starter. I was was also trying to hop back into the draft and take a chance on one of the players on my draft board.
