Re: GM firing

So what are the reason we decided on for firing a GM. I'm wondering because I'd like to avoid getting fired while I build a long term team.

I'll be honest, I was forced to let my Coach take over the majority of the initial building of The Buffalo Bills due to family issues and as the GM I trusted my new Hire. I have spent many hours looking at the roster from top to bottom and have made a plan to build a long term playoff team instead of signing stop gap players.

I know my job isn't safe but I'm just wondering if I need to be more worried about losing my job rather than building a winner

I don't think you're at immediate risk (unless you go winless this season). Otherwise, I think you're good for at least 3-4 more seasons. ;-)

I think these are the rules, but check with beercloud:

Hiring and Firing of GM's

1) GM's could get fired for under-performing , a winless season or for league conduct violations.
2) Once fired they would go to the back of the waiting list.
3) No more than 3 GM's can be fired in a given season. And at least one if there is someone on the waiting list.
4) New GM's can't be fired in their first 3 seasons unless they have 2 winless seasons in that time frame.

There are several ways to determine when a GM can be fired.
.
A) If they have a winless season.
B) If they have 3 consecutive seasons with less than 5 wins
C) If they have 4 consecutive seasons with less than 7 wins
D) If they have 5 consecutive seasons under .500
E) If they have 6 consecutive seasons not making the playoffs
F) If a GM takes over a playoff team and miss the playoffs for 3 consecutive seasons.
G) 3 League Conduct violations.
H) No GM can be fired in their first 3 seasons with exception of rule 4.
I) If no one is on the waiting list each GM will retain their tenure with exception of rule G.
J) Once a GM is fired from their team they may not be hired by that same team for 3 seasons. They may be hired by another team at any time, determined by the waiting list.

This quote alone is a great example as to the fun this rule can provide. It's adding that realism factor. But worry about both losing your job and building your team the best you can regardless. Treat at as real as you can to get the most fun out of it. Pretend your reputation is on the line and the other potential owners that may hire you takes that into consideration. Have fun with it.

jgcruz hit it on the head. Since you went 9-7 last season your safe for at least 3 more seasons unless you go 0-16.

But that being said, if there is nobody on the waiting list and your the only GM that was up to be fired, you would keep your team.

If there is nobody on the waiting list and another GM was up to be fired as well, you would be hired for their team and that other GM would be hired for your team.

I certainly enjoy the realism of this rule and plan to make a name for myself in this league like i have in 2 of my other leagues. I didnt mean to make this sound like i was nervous or that I was going to tank. I just wanted to be clear on the rules

no worries. I finally got a chart together for you guys to follow. I struggled on how to set it up. I was trying to make it so it would update automatically, but that is apparently above my pay grade. So I will have to do this manually after each season. The thread is up in the sticky section.
