There are several problems and realistically nothing will change. The trade meter blows. Over values certain positions like OL. Honestly I don’t see how you can’t easily fix that by valuing the attributes only and maybe an adjustment for boomers or busts.

In a crappy season, it’s not easy to watch all the trades and then request a review. Don’t have the time or willingness to make that effort.

Bottom line I guess is I’m jealous I can’t trade peanuts for high picks.

I'm new to this league but not to MFN, and I just don't get giving away your future (draft picks) for pennies on the dollar in any circumstance. Just because the league has a 'Hot Seat' rule where its win-or-be-fired does not mean you should mortgage (/sink) your team's future for your own sake. In real-life no-one would employ you ever again if you did that (unless you're Hue Jackson, and we know how that works out). If you're going to get fired then **** it up, but just don't ruin the team for the next guy, and the added bonus to that is that it helps the integrity of the league.

Being extremely new to MFN ive kept quiet and have watched and i wont call any names but looking back in my first 2 months there is an issue with trading and like many young
GM's i have put my teams in a worse position because of trading 1st round picks because of not a good understanding of value or understanding how to read the draft properly but at the same time having 3 full years before being allowed to be fired is still plenty of time if they are willing to learn to become better especially when seasons are about 3 months long. however i do agree that more experienced MFN players should be kept an eye on and maybe having someone who is willing to watch trades and make sure the trades fair could be a step in making sure that new players are not being taken advantage of. personally I dont see implicating new rules will help much, but maybe private messaging new players when a trade value doesnt seem fair could again be helpful. just throwing suggestions

This is a very good thread on the trading issue and as Mac, myself, and many others have pointed out and complained about, the trading meter values. This thread was posted back in December and I felt it worth it to keep it in view and will use it as a reference for new owners. May be worth a sticky, BC.

Once upon a time I saw the trade meter and trading rules being an issue, but when you look at the leagues and 60% of each are the same owners, it is pretty much a non issue.

I really think our 2 trade rule has helped spread the trades out a lot more. But I don't think the CC is used by guys as much as it could.

I think guys are afraid of stepping on peeps toes or something. There's no reason to feel that way here and no reason to take it personal when one of your trades get a review request. It's all part of the fun. Then again we really haven't had too many issues come up either, which tells a lot about you guys as a whole.

As far as a team trading away draft picks, there's 3 sides to that coin.
Draft picks can and do bust.
Trading away your future can come back to haunt you even with the Hire n Fire rule. You could end up not getting fired for various reasons or you can end up with your same team down the line.
And the 3rd side is finances. High draft picks cost you money. If you dont have the cap space for the next few seasons, trading your picks for good players with good contracts can really help a team out.

And then of course high draft picks can be your friend. So I guess that's four sides. :)

There's a lot to think about and consider when trading. As far as oversight and rules go, the main thing is to prevent a less knowledgeable owner from getting ripped off by the trade meter values and not having a good understanding of player/position values. That is what needs to be guarded against. Most of us in the league know what the key values and considerations are when it comes to trading. I have felt real good about the trading Ive done the last couple of seasons, its one of the reasons that the Pack has won the division the last 5 seasons. I dont have any 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round draft picks this draft, my focus will be on the early FA period, which I consider to be just as important if not moreso than the draft. I was more than happy with the players and value that I got for those and other future picks. The Pack should be back again this next season, and stronger than this last where we almost made it to the LC game.
I replied to this older thread as I came across it by accident and was surprised that I missed it back in December. I thought it was one of the better discussions/threads about trading that I had seen to date. The best prevention of trade abuse is knowledge. I have also recently had two horrendous roster experiences as a result of going way over the sal cap with a much bigger harvest of early FA elites than expected, let me tell you, you dont want that to happen. I had to trade away almost all of my best players or get nothing for them (Bruins/NCAA and Chargers/NatFL). I always thought i could make room if I had to for new, higher salary FA's, but found out that sometimes will backfire on you. So make sure you take a good look at your salary cap and also know what players you can cut for how much if you need the additional cap room.
