Re: Outstanding performance from sub 75 DR CB1 & CB2 last season.

Last season, it would be considered a real good one for a CB1 or 2 who was able to get 3 or 4 interceptions and allowed less than 65% completions. That will change in 4.5 as the completion % standard for good coverage will now be in the 40s or lower. But, last season, based on 30 or more passes defended as a minimum, here are the CBs that had 3 picks and and Ai default rating less than 75. First rating # is the Ai default, 2nd # is my weights rating. Would like to get comments from owners on these players and their performance, how did you select them, why did you start them, was their performance expected or a good guess?

Michael Kelly, Steelers, CB2, 3 picks/58.7ca. 10 yr vet. 72 dr - 67 mr

Floyd Gunter, Cowboys, CB1, 3/48.4, 4 yr vet. 60 dr - 66 mr Very good example of a player with a low default rating but very high "key" attributes, speed-84, M2M 88/91, punish 79, B&R 61.

Tom Miguel, Jets, CB2, 4 picks & 40.6%ca (outstanding!), 4 yr vet. 65 dr - 64 mr. Very unusual performance for a CB with M2M rating of 51 and punish 58. His performance is consistent over his first 3 seasons.

Ryan Judd, Packers, 4 picks & 60.2, 6yr vet. 68 dr - 71 mr. Good key atts and speed.

Michael Dozier, Patriots, 4 picks & 64.8, 9yr vet. 62 dr - 65 mr, Good example of a player with average to low key atts and rating that over-achieves. B&R 79, M2M 65, punish 46

Lyle Castaneda, Jets, CB1 (second CB for Jets!), 4 picks & 67.6, 3 yr vet, 70 dr - 72 mr

Ricky Kraatz, Bengals, CB3, 4 picks & 64.1, 9yr vet, 63 dr - 62 mr

Congrats to the owners/teams who have these players, its also interesting to see how consistent they are over several seasons as compared to having one or two out of ten.

Thanks BC & OT. Judd was added to the Packers in a trade, and a couple of sharp-eyed owners commented on it, saying that Judd was a nice add and the trade was in favor of the Pack.

When it comes to evaluating and making decisions on what players to start, trade, draft, etc, sometimes it can be a very inexact science. The secondary is a crucial position group in 4.5, and you can usually spot the ones in trouble by the scores. A good defense with a strong secondary should not allow more than 11-12 pts avg/game. If you can "get lucky" with a 60-70 rater that plays at an elite level, that is a real bonus.

In general, the CB1 and CB2 positions have become harder to throw on if they have good key atts and ratings in 4.4 & now 4.5. In both versions, QBs are throwing most of the passes to the 3rd & 4th option receivers - TE, RB, WR3 & 4, FB
