Thirteen Colonies Intel

After 4 well approved seasons with GM vcr5150 the Patriots hired GM CoachSimpson to continue and develop where the former GM left off.
Simpson has already made a few coaching adjustments in the team and has pointed to the lackings in the backfield as an area of interest for the coming draft and free agent signings, having already signed with former Broncos CB Thomas Farfan.

CoachSimpson still secretive about goals for the coming season, did make it clear that he intends to keep all offensive players at Foxboro for the coming season.
"Despite some offers for QB Davis and WR Chavez none have been interesting enough to let these two influential players go. They are important to coming season and a backbone in the Pats challenge to the Dolphin AFC East domination of recent seasons." CoachSimpson explains.

Notes on pre-season 1979

In the coming pre-season games the Pats will be facing mainly a NFC West showdown as the thirteen colonies will be up against Seahawks (game 1) @ Schaefer Stadium, 49’ers (game 2) away, Cardinals (game 3) @ Schaefer and rounding pre-season up in Chicago against the only visit to NFC North against the Bears (game 4).

The Pat’s have only faced Seattle Seahawks 3 times in preseason since 1970. In fact the first time was pre-season 1970 which was won at Schaefer Stadium by a staggering 50-16 score.
It wasn’t until preson 1976 that we once again faced Seahawks, this time away at Kingdome. As diehard fans may recall the game went into OT after being tied at 33 points and ended with a win for the colonists 39-36 after RB Guy Artis took a 70 yard dash across the field.
The following preseason Seahawks gained a win in Foxboro.

Second game the Patriots will be on the road to the flower-power capitol of the world. Returning for the first time since we met the 49’ers in a pre-season game in 1972. Which was won convincingly 42-21. It will be interesting revisiting the Bay area in a pre-season that has seen a lot of turmoil in the 49’ers HQ.

Game 3 at Schafer Stadium we’re looking forward to greet Arizona Cardinals. Last season we lost to Cardiac Cards away in pre-season game 2. The only time we’ve ever met Cards in a pre-season game.
CoachNorm is in the process of rebuilding his squad, so it will be interesting to see how far he has come in that process. Hopefully a Pats win is on the records as we hit the road for the final practice game.

For the 6th time since 1972, the Colonists will face the Bears in a preson game. 4 has been won and 1 lost in the previous 5 games. This coming visit to windy city will be the third consecutive face-down. From 72-74 we had another 3 consecutive run, which left Pat’s with 2 wins. Time will tell if the Bears can take the win to level that score.

Overall CoachSimpson is pleased with the coming preseason programme in which he has announced that a lot of on tested players will be given the chance.

After a long period of waiting for the season to open the minutemen have worked hard at training camp this preseason to face the coming season.

This season we're opening on the road with a visit to Detroit. We haven't faced the Lions since game 9 in 1975. In fact Pats have only faced the Lions 3 times in the past - and all games have seen the Lions cheering post match.
However, New England Patriots haven't lost a season opener since 1974 against the Jets. Hopefully the new GM will not begin his record by changing this proud opener tradition.

"This pre-season has seen only small changes in the roster, and we're sure to further develop strengths put in motion last season. The Lions and GM Duval will be a suitable challenge to see where we are in our progression" CoachSimpson, New England GM

QB Davis traded to GB Packers

Sure Davis has awesome quality, but just couldn't hit any his teammates. He did manage to throw some juicy accurate give aways to wichever opponent we were facing. With his price tag that was just not worth it, imo. Any of my other qb's can throw as inaccurately as Davis - at a much smaller pay. Heck even Bart or Flanders could be missing that many attempts - and they wouldn't get paid at all. Hopefully Davis will fit better with Packers.

Post season recap

It has been quiete on the Intel since the trade of "Big Deal Davis" to Packers. In the we got QB Borden but he didn't prove to be a long term solution in the northeast. Therefore we decided to give young rookie QB Blosser the chance at the wheel. Despite the inexperience young Blosser stepped up to the plate and had a 71.1 % passer rating, throwing 10 TD's and nearly 1500 yards in just 6 games. Looking good for the future at New England.
WR Patrick Pomeroy was rotated into RB slot and that also proved significant in adding pressure on the offensive plays. Rushing a 4.2 average is well accepted.
Another rookie WR John Fessler also made his mark proving a strong 3rd string.
The O-line held things together after Blosser got command, and let him be sacked but a single time.
D-line still needs some repairs and a lot of focus will go there in coming draft. Not to mention that we've lost a ton of points on missed FG's and PAT's.

Overall we've enjoyed this first season, perhaps not finishing where we hoped we could, but all things considered we're delighted not to finish last - and signs shown in the last 6 rounds is making us confident, that we can return more competative for the coming season.

Cheers to all for an exciting season

Preseason 1980

Turning the corner of a new season we're heading into a new decade.

The draft didn't go as planned as we basically missed the last 4 picks on the board, having AI doing the job.
In the first round we picked RT Brian Croft who will be converted into strengthen the left.
Picked at 37/92 Croft showed great hustle during training camp and jumped for 18/0.

2nd pick DT Roy Moss 38/77 had a spectacular camp and progressed 19/12. Unfortunately Moss might just be made of that as he saw an early injury and is now kept of the roster.

In the 4th round we gambled on FS Sabatino, and he proved a bust and didn't make the cut.
However having another pick in the round we went with K George Jackson who made a reasonable camp 9/-1. Not a long term solution, but he will do for now.
Also in round 4 we picked Ignacio Paquette showing 8/2 in camp earned him a place at center.

From this point AI took over and picked MLB Adolph Bean who had a decent 4/4 camp and earned a place as back-up. RDE Saunders was picked next in the 5th round and had a good camp 17/1. LT Lucas went 11/1 and was traded to Panthers.

In round 7 AI picked WR Allen Giles 9/6 looking to become a decent back-up.
Last pick by AI and Patties were LG Richard Guzman who went 10/2 at camp.

Little suprised at how well the AI performed.....

The coming season we will certainly try to improve finishing last in the division. Hopefully we will also have a season with more play stability as the previous season saw a lot of changes especially on offense. Most of that should be in some order at this time and we're happy with what we're seeing this far in preseason games.
