New Era in Miami

After the last game of the 1978 season, Harold Hutchinson decided to retire from football after two years as our HC. With a 89 - 49 record and two SB rings, one in Miami and the other one in Seattle, Harold will be a Hall of Famer candidate.

After consider some names, our former DC Tory Friedman was promoted to be the new head coach for the Miami Dolphins. A well-earned promotion after all the great work he did in the defensive side the last few seasons. Friedman will continue to run a WC Offense scheme and a 4-3 scheme on defense so the transition will be a smooth one for everybody.

To replace Tory as the defensive coordinator, we signed former LB coach for the Chargers, George Ryan. He has been a position coach in San Diego for the last 6 seasons and will have a big pressure to keep the same defensive level that this roster has been playing the last few years.

But the big news don't stop here. In the third week of the free agency, and after missing some key FA targets, one of the young rising stars in the league QB Erik Fiorini signed with the Dolphins for 66,693,929, 6 yrs. Coming from Washington, Erik wasn't in our plans but his talent and dual-threat style might be an upgrade for this team. QB Rickey Fisher has been the starter for the last three years, and was the SB MVP two season ago but now will have to compete for the starter gig. Life come at you fast. QB controversy ahead in Miami.

Whoever ends up as the backup won't be happy with the situation and might be a trade candidate in the near future... Who you got as the starter QB in Week 1?

Moreover, to fill the hole we had in the LG postion, with 5 yr exp coming from Baltimore LG John Warren signed a $45,896,103, 6 yrs contract. His inexperience and speed are worrying but we hope he's the long term answer after paying him big bucks.

We lost some key depth from last year in CB Henry Spears or RB Floyd Sutliff (both went to Carolina) but added some new pieces:

Mike Klatt - RT : Our new Swing Tackle. Can play both sides of the offensive line. Decent strength and pass & run blocking ability.

John Levy - MLB: Solid player for depth and special teams.

Joseph Park - P: After testing the FA market, Joseph decided to come back for two more season. He was outstanding last season for us.

Anthony Brown - DT: Brown has everything I want in my edge players except speed so I decided to convert him to DT. He'll have the training camp and pre-season to add weight and claim a spot in the roster.

James Manning - CB: Solid vet to add depth to our secondary. 93 speed with a 59 M2M coverage.

Carlton Sullivan - WR: Super fast WR with high route running... but awful hands. Pre-season will be huge for him, he needs to prove security catching the ball.

Draft madness is coming tomorrow.

Great point on coach as a Hall of Fame Candidate. We prolly need to come up with some min. requirement guidelines like we did with players over on the rules debate thread..

After 8 consecutive seasons, 6 Division Championships and 1 SuperBowl, it's time to leave Miami. That was a **** of a run. The Marathon Continues, new challenges are coming.
