The Carolina Panthers would like to announce that they've signed a one year deal to become the first ever team in Paydirt Football League to become publicly transparent. The team is excited about the opportunity to share insight into all of the ongoing activities and transaction that goes on within the organization. For the team, it could be a double-edged sword allowing opposing teams to swoop in and snatch targeted free agents or trade targets. It's also possible that it could discourage some teams from negotiating deals with Carolina as they may not want to be put in the spotlight. The Carolina Panthers, however, are positive that this move will be productive, insightful, and fun for all football fans.

As of today, they've released already numerous reports on the course of action, headed by GM jouameng...

Plans

QB's are a good situation as they believe that they have 3 QB's on the roster that could compete to start in former Panther starter Robert Thompson, recently acquired Earl Beachum, and 2nd-year player Max Sheets. Sheets had a great performance in week one of preseason thrusting him to the forefront of the race although Thompson and Beachum will be able to prove themselves in the upcoming contests. The offensive skill positions look set for the upcoming season but the OL will be tinkered with. There are too much talent and too little roster spots available. Some of those talents will be cut and others will be traded especially after recently acquiring RG Eugene Rhymer. On the defensive side of the ball, everything looks set except for the competition at the DT position. The team plans to keep 4 DT on the roster so it's likely that 2 will be cut/traded. The team revamped this offseason with hopes of making it back postseason season after a down year last year but know it'll be tough as the other teams in the NFC South improved as well.

Trades Offers

Currently, the Panthers have one trade offers that they've sent out.

They've offered the Washington Redskins a deal in which CB Gerald Perotta and a 1980 2nd Round Pick (Originally of Washington) in exchange for WR Charles Woodson.

Free Agents

The Panthers have announced that currently there are no offers out on any Free Agents.

Notable Depth Chart Movements

As previously mentioned the QB race is tight and this week Sheets will be thrown out there again as well as QB Earl Beachum coming in as a backup. The team plans to find out whether Sheets performance was a fluke or if he's the real deal. As for the rest of the team, they look to start all Week 1 starters as they continue building up to play in a real regular season game with the plan being to rest them in Preseason Weeks 3 or 4.

Some inactive's for this week will be LG Wayne Wood (Probable, Leg), RT Scott Oleary (Questionable, Hand), DT James Jones (Probable, Neck), and CB Kenneth Cohen (Probable, Neck).

Plans

So now that the 2nd preseason game is over there are some players that have been fully and conditioned and will sit out the rest of preseason... LT Lynch, DT Tilghman, DT Whalen, LB Noel, CB Ho, CB Pace, and CB Burt. With the trade of RT Oleary the Panthers will look towards recently acquired RG Eugene Rhymer to take the role as the starting RT for the Panthers. RG Freddie Shaw who was acquired by Carolina in the Oleary deal will be cut, dropping the roster from 59 to 58 men. Giving up Oleary will certainly hurt the depth at the OL position but it allows for valuable picks to be added for the future. Oleary, only 24 and drafted in the 3rd round of the 1976 draft, gave up just 5 sacks last year and could become a perennial all-pro for the Cardinals.

Trades Offers

Since the last update, the Panthers have currently received 2 trades. They currently have sent 0 trade offers pending.

REJECTED: Carolina has offered the Washington Redskins a deal in which CB Gerald Perotta and a 1980 2nd Round Pick (Originally of Washington) in exchange for WR Charles Woodson.

The Washington Redskins countered the Panthers offer asking for CB Gerald Perotta, SS Christopher Rubio, WR Tommy Grooms, and WR Leonard Adams in exchange for WR Charles Woodson, WR Stephen McClain, and a 1981 2nd Round Pick. The deal was rejected by the Carolina Panthers.

The Arizona Cardinals sent over an offer in which they asked for RT Scott Oleary and a 1981 7th Round Pick in exchange for RG Freddie Shaw, 1980 3rd Round Pick (Originally of New York N), 1981 1st Round Pick, and 1981 3rd Round Pick. Carolina has accepted the offer.

Free Agents

The Panthers have announced that currently there are no offers out on any Free Agents.

Notable Depth Chart Movements

Nothing's really changed since the past week. The lineups are generally a lock and the QB position is still a mystery. The depth chart has been set for week 3's preseason matchup.

Contract Negotiations

The Carolina Panthers offered a 6 year contract to recently acquired OL Eugene Rhymer. The 2 parties unfortunately couldn't come to an agreement but are still hoping to get a deal done before the regular season starts.

I dont know that a trade offer leak to the press is a good thing for either team.
But makes for good tv.

The offer was rejected by the Dolphins and was countered in conversation with CB Burt or CB Cohen in a deal for RDE Byers. The deal rejected by the Carolina Panthers, who think to keep a solid core defensive backs is the team's priority. As much of a game changer Byers may be, the Panthers decided they wouldn't pursue RDE Byers anymore at this time.

Carolina has been interested in other pieces as well, especially Detriot Lions MLB Willie Spence. Although the team has yet to make a formal trade offer, they've contacted the Lions on what Spence may cost them.

Contract Negotiations

The Panthers have failed to come to an agreement again with newly transitioned RT Eugene Rhymer. The team has hopes that a 3rd time's the charm as they've sent out another offer.

The WR unit will have Grooms, Rodriguez, Adams, Motley, and Arnold. The starters on the OL will be LT Lynch, LG Wood, C Butler, RG Handy, and RT Rhymer. On the defensive side of the ball, DT to LDE convert Dustin Tilghman is taking over the starting role at left edge. DT James Jones moves into the #1 role while Rookie DT Whalen moves into the #2 spot. The starting RDE position will be held by Goodall. The LB core will consist of recently acquried SLB Wolfe, 2nd year 1st round pick Noel, and WLB McIntyre. The DB core consists of vets CB Ho, CB Pace, SS Perotta, and FS Howard.

Plans

Injuries have hit the Panthers early in the season as WR Cameron Arnold has been deactivated due to a Leg injury. Some minor injuries have hit the offensive line too with LG Wayne Wood, C Michael Sartain, and C Kenneth Butler all slightly banged up. The RDE's are hurt too as starting RDE Stephen Goodall has a neck injury bothering him while his backup DT Brandon Campbell sustained a hand injury. The biggest injury though occurred to MLB Stephen Noel who suffered a Leg Injury which has him out for 10 weeks during the Week 3 match up.

Trades Offers

Since the last update, the Panthers have currently received 6 trade offers. They currently have 0 trade pending.

PENDING: No trades currently pending.

Free Agents

The Panthers have announced that currently there are no offers out on any Free Agents.

Notable Depth Chart Movements

After a dreadful start by QB Max Sheets, the Panthers have relegated him to bench duties as he'll now sit behind backup QB Earl Beachum and newly promoted starting QB Robert Thompson. Thompson, who's struggles last year saw him getting demoted to back up had a rough pre-season but for whatever reason was chosen to start against the New York Jets. The promotion paid off for the team as he led the Panthers to their first win of the 1978 Regular Season. Carolina has decided to reactivate original starting C Butler to start this week while deactivating DT Campbell. The Panthers also have moved LDE Chavez over to RDE to back up Goodall. While MLB Noel is recovering from his major injury, MLB Eric Perez will take his role and hopefully hold down the position until Noel can recover. DT Robert Goad will be activated in MLB Noel's place.

Contract Negotiations

The Panthers were finally able to come to a 6yr/18.4M contract agreement with RT Eugene Rhymer week 1 of the 1978 season.

Plans

On a 3 game winning streak, the Panthers have finally started rolling with the only thing holding them back seemingly being injuries that simply just won't go away. Luckily there's only been small injuries other than the 2 injuries that have both LG Wayne Wood and MLB Eric Perez questionable for the next two weeks. Carolina is also still shopping around CB Gerald Perrotta and QB Earl Beachum although the team isn't in a rush to get a deal done. Perrotta of which has played exceptionally well this season, seemingly shutting everything down that's been thrown his way.
