The Arizona Cardinals defeated the San Diego Chargers 24-10 in the first week of the 2015 preseason. The game took place on August 15 with Cardinals head coach Steven Edwards leading his team on the road.

The Chargers won the opening toss and elected to receive. San Diego took an early lead when Arnold Harris scored a 54-yard rushing touchdown seven minutes into the game. The extra point was good, putting the Chargers ahead 7-0. However, the Cardinals responded quickly with a touchdown pass from quarterback Frank Atkins to wide receiver David Wise in the closing seconds of the first quarter, tying the game 7-7 after a successful extra point by Terry McFalls.

Arizona then took control in the second quarter. A 40-yard field goal by McFalls gave the Cardinals a 10-7 lead. Later, a two-yard touchdown run by tight end Ricky Casto increased the advantage to 16-7, followed by McFalls' extra point. The Cardinals maintained their momentum and sealed the victory with another touchdown run by Casto.

Quarterback Daniel Rogers threw for 115 yards and two touchdowns for Arizona while completing 24 of 35 passes. Ricky Casto was a significant contributor with 58 receiving yards and two rushing touchdowns. David Wise added a rushing touchdown and 22 receiving yards. Running back Matthew Ligon had a tough start with a fumble in the first quarter but still contributed on the ground.

San Diego's quarterback Cliff Hamilton completed 29 of 44 passes for 129 yards but was intercepted once. Arnold Harris led the Chargers' ground game with 51 rushing yards and caught passes totaling 25 yards, including a touchdown reception.

Defensively, the Cardinals recorded six sacks, led by defensive tackle Joe Dement with two. San Diego's defense managed three sacks and forced two fumbles, recovering one, with linebacker Steven Turner accounting for one sack and a forced fumble.

Turnovers played a key role in the contest as both teams forced a total of three turnovers. Arizona recovered two fumbles while also intercepting a pass. Penalties were minimal, with only three infractions against the Cardinals for 23 yards.

This opening preseason game offers glimpses into team strengths and areas needing improvement for both sides as they move forward in training camp. Coaches Steven Edwards and Perry Foster will likely analyze these early performances closely to evaluate roster choices and adjust before the regular season begins.
