Question about cap space and free agents

There is an owner in one of my leagues barely under the cap right now and has multiple very large contract offers out on free agents. The contracts will definitely not be out bid for at least a couple of them.

What will happen when he signs them without the space? Does he get some time to cut others? Does he get penalized but keeps everyone ? Or do the offers just get rejected? If they are rejected do they go to someone who has already submitted an offer? Or do they end up like day 1 FA'S throwing off the whole off season free agency?

I'm relatively new and haven't seen this before. I myself ran into cap space issues last season and screwed my team by just letting guys walk instead of dealing them.

He can sign them during the off season and go over the cap, draft picks will push him further over the cap. After training camp if he has not fixed his cap situation the AI will automatically cut whomever has the largest base salary for the season regardless of the rest of the contract (length/bonus), that could lead to a massive dead cap hit the following season.

Man I hope it's a good owner ... and the team won't be ruined ...

I personally believe he is going to absolutely wreck the franchise by doing this. It's going to be a matter of when and not if. He's offering 6 year deals with 50 percent bonuses to players with 8 years+ experience.

I'm betting it's me in 67, and I know what I'm doing. :)

It could be me. We've got about the same cap space ~$24M.

Surely it's someone else as that's not too tight of a margin.

I remember a few seasons ago I actually had to make a couple of trades/cuts just to get below the cap in CUST-21. Made it by less than $1,000.

For what it's worth, WarEagle also knows what he's doing. :)

It's neither of you and it's quite clear you both know what you are doing.

I didn't dime the guy out on purpose.
