I’m quite open to just ditching my teams to continue owning my two leagues .

I think that peoples that created leagues before this new subscription model should keep it for free, it seems more fair for the league commish and better to keep the game alive to me.

Then I think things are coming in the wrong order.

First, the actual game engine is worse than the previous one, we can't say it's a good one and more than this, it's an old one. There is now years that the game has not improved, that we had no idea of what's coming next, and even if the game was going to exist or being closed at a moment. Some peoples can be bored by the actual engine and the only thing we know will come soon is a new interface, and to keep playing this same engine that peoples are now used to play and probably bored since like 2 years (?), peoples will have to pay or reduce the number of leagues they play in ?

Honestly I have no problem with this subscription model actually, but the first thing to do in my opinion is to improve the gameplay and only then make peoples pay, so they will be encouraged to pay for a new and improved experience, instead of paying for an old and not perfect one...

$5 just to remove adds on the full package ????

I have tried the full package, just because I like to customize the 3 teams I have and the ads not being there are so key for not slowing everything down. I am trying this full package, but there is no way I am going to keep paying $15.00 a month. It would be nice if the problem with most of the offensive plays not working much at all goes away. In Grandpa's league, we need to fabricate rules of using more of those plays that dont work so everything is more properly balanced, I get it, but doing it like that simply makes it easier for other teams to defeat you. Especially near the end of the season, and in the playoffs. Your opponent can simply not follow Grandpa's rules, and then win more easily.

I will pay $15.00 for a few months I guess, but not for long if things dont improve. I dont want that to sound mean or to sound like a threat. I have been playing MFN for a few years for a reason. That reason is that JDB has really created a very interesting simulation here and it is appealing. I played the game for 16 years and it is my favorite sport. I used to play Madden a lot. The last one I purchased was 2010. So there has got to be some reason why I would rather play this MFN simulation than go back to Madden.

If you haven't looked at it, Kickstarter should be something to check out. Investment without needing to directly promote to investors outside of having the game working and I have seen Kickstarters for games in similar situations with decreasing player bases do well. Here is a link https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dreamslothgames/duelyst-ii?ref=discovery&term=duelyst to a project by new developers essentially remaking a game and earning more than the game's original kickstarter.

I know there are subreddits where you would be allowed to promote MFN directly and you could use Reddit Ads to bring new players into the game to help the game grow while giving you a better product to showcase. A current one I am subscribed to https://www.reddit.com/r/gmgames/ and I get that it is not a large subreddit but just a single one on the most trafficked site in the world.

These are just ideas off the top of my head so if you've already explored them and found they didn't fit your situation please ignore them

I wonder if it might be worthwhile for those with concerns to create a shared document to collect our feedback, as the discussion is currently going round in circles, with a couple of exceptions, and in such situations it rapidly devolves to noise and is of little value to us or to JDB.

--

When I first read about the changes I posted this in our league discord:
"The game has a small but pretty dedicated community. JDB could throw up a patreon with a number of tiers and people would probably pay him more out of good will" and the general consensus was agreement.

In the process of writing this, a thought occurred to me: For those on the lower end of the income spectrum, the amount of disposable income available can vary wildly from month to month, and with that in mind...

A question for you, JDB: what do you see happening to monthly subscribed multi-league players who have a bad month financially and find that they can't afford to renew that month?

Will they be immediately kicked from all of their teams - bar one - and have to reapply for ownership when they renew later, or will there be a grace period?

I ask that because I'm still, a season and a half later, dealing with the aftermath of my team being unmanaged for a single midweek game tick before I took them over, as the AI used all of the available cap space to re-sign 3 of my 12 or 13 players whose contracts were set to expire (and for far more than they were worth).

If people get booted from their team(s) for missing a month, then there is zero reason for them to come back to them, as it would likely involve a major squad rebuild, assuming the team was even still available.

Thanks

A good post, although I'd say that Kickstarter isn't the right model; Kickstarter is a one-time fundraiser for projects with clearly-defined "this is exactly how much money we need to make this", "these are the project goals" and "this is how we know what 'Completed' looks like", and the developers only get the money if it hits the funding goal.

As a long-standing web-based game this should always be in a state of evolution, and it needs regular income to keep the infrastructure running. Patreon would be perfect for this, in my opinion.

I'd argue the UI update and that several other goals could be added as progress goals that the community could be a part of (updating default player weights would be my first idea as well as designing plays) and brand the Kickstarter as a "relaunch" of MFN where the funds are going to current server costs as well as development costs. It's hard to work productively in an environment where you lack financial stability.

Patreon seems like the current subscription system with extra steps and another mouth to feed to me, but I might not be as informed about it anymore. I think taking feedback on the subscription tiers and reorganizing them is the best plan of action for them but I haven't really looked at them after the changes or followed this thread well enough to know how people are feeling about them.

I had no problem shoveling 2.99$ to Amazon Prime per month to not have commercials.
Like this post if you did the same.

postnote: 2.50$ is fine for 1 team/no adverts BUT until I am forced to disable my adblocker, it's not happening.
WHile I am at it, RO should be 100% free. RO absolutely sucks and offers very little actual roster management (no overs. Seriously?), but it's also an easy path towards potential new subscribers, as roster development and team management seem to be the main attraction for the current community.

i did not want to edit and forgive the triple post - but it seems from reading that admins want to have a more affordable option that would make it easier for them to continue doing all they do for us normies.
I'd like to suggest a cheaper, per month and annual (obviously an annual paid admin would be a bonus to GMs so such leagues should have a tag or some such - an easy perk) for admins.
One that includes no adds, permission to admin multiple leagues, and unlimited access to all admin functions prior to the inclusion of the subscription system.

I'm not going to propose a cost, but I've gathered from this thread there's a hard cap on 10$ per month max on any "full access" subscription currently offered.

I'm probably wrong, but the real issue is folks don't want to decrease how much they enjoy MFN. It's been said in so many ways, but that seems to be the bottom line.
At least to me.

Nothing good comes easy.
Thank you for a great game JDB, thx to my admin (mcbolt), and so very glad to have found MFN. My experience has been mostly awesome so far.
What a vigorous community!
