Re: Speed and Acceleration

I converted a TE to RB. First Season was a disaster, 3.2 YPC at like 262 Pounds.

He's down to the Mid 250s... he's up to 4.2 YPC.

He's on of those 99 Speed/100 Acceleration types (83 Ball Handling).

His break away isn't there, he gets caught from behind. But his Burst is pretty good and he can get space from a stop and go. I get being bigger means his Over All Speed is less, but I'm wondering the impact on that as well.

Just how MUCH faster is that 220 pound S than my 250 pound RB, to that 186 Pound CB, to that 300 Pound OL/DL?

well I think the reason the 1st season was a disaster is when you are discussing about moving him people said it would take time for him to get down to the weight that RB has where he would be a factor or something along those lines.

So I would think his 2nd or 3rd season you should see something better from him.

Most of the time acceleration is going to be more important than speed - speed is basically the velocity that the player maxes out at, acceleration (combined with the player's weight) is how fast he gets there. If acceleration is low then a player will rarely even get to his max speed especially if it is high.

I need to put 40-times on the player cards, that would be a fairly trivial calculation, I just haven't gotten around to it.

Sadly, if you add 40 Times you might as well add 10 Yard Splits (how fast they cover the first 10 in a 40)...

which may then lead to people wondering where the 3 Cone Drill is (a greater measure of agility/acceleration than speed).

Not that I'm opposed to this... just more work on your part.

This is actually the main reason I haven't done the 40-times, because while that is an easy formula (and the 10-yard splits would be just as easy), translating attributes to other combine scores - especially strength-related ones - are not nearly as straightforward.

Strength is similar to speed in that bigger get slower for speed and the smaller get weaker for strength.

There are tests that have translated patterns in player max bench and there combine scores at 225.

But for the scale......

Most guys weigh under 350. Ideally you only need to be 72 inches and 300lbs to bench 225lbs over 40 times. Some of the weakest 300 lbs have put up like 13 reps. That's zero strength.
I would say 200lb might be able to get 30 reps for a high and zero for a low. The scale is pretty consistent IRL. The smallest player could weigh as little as 150lb.

In terms of a bell scale most players are between 200 and 300 pounds with outliers being 150 and 350 while the middle is 250. I use a similar scale a using height and weight to develop a frame. As physics help thicker guys with torque and leaner guys with speed. Any scale will work, but this applies to vertical measurements as well as agility with just a reverse of the layout of the formula.

I have been having trouble developing certain combine scores only because we have no jumping or agility skill. I feel they align with 3 Cone drill. A great measure of power and speed. Also jumping as it relates to explosion. I have tinkered with using courage and punish as vertical and ball carry /run defense as agility or 3cone.
