Re: Completed Trade: Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The trade was with the ATL. During the 1984 draft in which Atlanta took a WR with the first round pick. Then later in the draft proceeded to trade their remaining 1st round pick for CB Dwight King. The trade was voided because Atlanta had already used their current year 1st round pick. In this situation, Tampa Bay still had his 1st round pick when the trade went through.

Yeah, this trade went through before he drafted his player... so technically it should be legal? Especially when Tennessee traded all of their future 1sts for a pick. If it’s voided based off of unfairness, sure... but the deal was completed before he didn’t have any 1sts, which was fine in the past. It was only after the drafted and no long had a 1st round pick that it was a problem.

Hey hey hey, don't throw me out there yet. Depending on any ruling, I still have a 1st round pick. At least until I pick at #28 lol

No. You are incorrect. Warthog/Cleveland ran into this very issue a number of seasons ago. He had made a 1st Rd pick in that season's draft, but traded away his other two season's 1st Rd picks. His trade was voided in spite of having a 1st Rd pick for the current season.

CR, I think you have the scenario correct, just the parties reversed. My trading partner(s) were the ones without first round picks after the trades. And I believe this happened twice.

I just remember that your trades were voided due this issue.

Oh! So because this trade was made on day one of the draft, instead of day 2 or 3, this trade should be allowed? Based on the fact that Tampa still had a 1st Rd pick, rather than made a 1st Rd pick?
As far as I'm concerned, the timing of the trade shouldn't matter.

It’s happened multiple times in the past and have gone through. No one has ever had their trades reversed when the completed trade happens before the draft and they had a 1st round pick. If you can find one, then by all means this trade should be voided.

Personally, it should be voided because you're screwing the guy. That's nothing new with your trades, though. As I've previously stated.

Oh. Wait. It has been voided already.

Just for reference, back on page about 26 or 27 of the forum you will find the Browns-Jets trade from 3/4/20 that got voided. Jets made two first round picks that draft, then traded away only future number one they had. Trade got voided. Not exactly the same joumeg, just relating a previous similar scenario.

Like I said, if it was so unfair it should be brought to the committee, but shouldn’t be voided on the basis of no draft picks. In this trade I swapped out a middling depth RDE for a sure starting young DE. A depth SS for a starting DT. Yes, he’s older but these are pieces that he wants along with the CB. I could see how the last trade is reviewed and voided, but this trade is a vast improvement.
