The Paydirt Report: Week 7There was a plethora(a 3 amigos term. lol) of great games in week 7. The Game of the Week was a tough one but Houston over San Francisco bested the Cincinnati / Philadelphia tie, Atlanta over Carolina thriller, Tennessee's 4th quarter comeback win over the Jets, New Orleans late victory over New England, Arizona's stunning win over the previously undefeated Green Bay Packers and San Diego's Battle Royale overtime victory over Cleveland.
Houston's QB Clancy remains the hottest QB in Paydirt and making an early bid at the leagues MVP. But the 49ers would strike first in this one on a 54 yd TD pass from QB Grogan to WR Mosher on their first drive which was 5 plays for 85 yds that only took 2:14. Houston would answer in the 2nd QT with a QB Clancy to WR G Smith 42 yd connection. Both teams would swap FG's to enter the locker room tied at 10.
San Francisco would strike first again in the second half on another QB Grogan TD pass. This time to RB Spence for 39 yds. Like a good heavy weight fight, the Texans would counter with another QB Clancy to WR G Smith TD pass. This one from 46 yds to tie it up 17-17 heading into the 4th quarter.
After trading punches the 49ers put together what they thought would be a game winning drive scoring with 1:39 left in the game on QB Grogan's 3rd TD pass on the day. Again to RB Spence, this was for a 16 yd TD giving the Texans back the lead at 23-17 pending the extra point. And why do we mention extra points here? You guessed it, cause the 49ers kicker newcomb missed it. A cruicial one it would be. That would give QB Clancy the ball with 1:33 left on the clock and 80 yds to score, dare I say.......... Paydirt. QB Clancy would put together a 10 play 80 yd drive that would be finished off with his 3rd TD on the day. WR Adams would be on the receiving end of this TD pass for 13 yds and :36 left to go. But wait we still have an extra point to go and Houston's kicker Periera has already missed on chip shot today. He drills it through and the Texans would win their 6th straight on the year.
Now on to the rest of the Paydirt world.
AFC
West
San Diego(6-1) wins Battle Royale over Cleveland to keep pace with Oakland(6-1) who throttled Pittsburgh 30-0. Kansas City(3-4) defeated Denver(3-4) in a divisional battle of their own.
East
Miami(5-2) regains the lead in the East with a huge divisional win over Buffalo(4-3). The Patriots(2-5) and New York Jets(1-6) both lost close games in week 7.
North
Cleveland's(5-2) tough loss allows Baltimore(4-3) to climb within a game of the AFC North division lead. The Ravens have won 3 straight and will face Cleveland next week in a colossal battle. Pittsburgh(3-4) loses ground with a loss while Cincinnati(2-4-1) puts one in the tie column.
South
Houston(6-1) opens up a 2 game lead over Jacksonville(4-3) who lost their 2nd straight. Indianapolis(2-5) loses and Tennessee(1-6) celebrates their first win of the year.
NFC
East
Washington(5-2) regains their share of the NFC East lead with a win and a loss by the new York Giants(5-2). Washington won a key division matchup with Dallas(2-5) and Philadephia(1-5-1) tied Tennessee.
West
Seattle(6-1) wins to hold a 2 game lead over Los Angeles(4-3) who is on a 3 game roll. Arizona(3-4) pulls off the upset of the year while San Francisco(0-7) falls just short of their first win of the season.
North
Green Bay(6-1) was the last undefeated team left in 78' until this week loss. But with a 3 game lead over Minnesota(3-4) there is little to be worried about in the North. Both Detroit(1-6) and Chicago(1-6) go down in defeat.
South
Tampa Bay(6-1) wins again and continues to hold a slim lead over red hot Atlanta(5-2) who just made it 5 in a row since they found a kicker. They won a key NFC South divisional battle over Carolina(3-4) and dont look now but New Orleans(3-4) just won their 2nd in a row.
