The Paydirt Report: Week 14It's official, division titles are falling faster than the Humpty Dumpty incident in 1810.
Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Green Bay, Houston and Cleveland received the highly sought after x.
Miami and Buffalo are still slugging it out as is Dallas and the NY Giants who meet this week. Now lets see what happened in the rest of the Paydirt Football League.
AFCWest
With Kansas City(13-1) claiming the Wild Wild West title, Denver(10-4) has become one of the hottest teams under the radar. Rattling off 7 straight wins and currently sits in the number 1 Wild Card position. San Diego(6-6-2) defeated Oakland(4-10) well........cause thats what division rivals do.
East
Speaking of division rivals, do we have one brewing in the East between Miami(10-4) and Buffalo(9-5)? After this last weeks game between the two of them their sure seems like there could be. Throw NY Jets(7-7) into the mix and you have some fightin going on. New England(4-9-1) would love to be in that mix. Maybe next year CoachSimpson can dial up a lil something for those three.
North
With Cleveland(10-4) on cruise control, could they be letting their guard down going into the playoffs? Nobody wants to enter the dance flat. Pad that bra if ya have to. Cincinnati(7-7) is finsihing the season with a flurry. Winning their last 4 in a row and defeating division rival and champion Cleveland both times. Baltimore(6-8) and Pittsburgh(3-11) are picking of the pieces of a season that could've been.
South
Houston(9-4-1) has capture the AFC South flag and is looking to gain a head of steam going into the playoffs. Indianapolis(6-8) made a gallant run for the division but fell off late. They have not claimed the division title since 1974. In fact that was the year they last made the playoffs. Jacksonville(3-11) and Tennessee(1-13) were huge disappointments in 1980. The Jacksonville faithful were hoping for a title run in the South. That was not to be. I don't even know what to say about the Titans.
NFCEast
Dallas(10-4) has opened a lil daylight between them and the NY Giants(8-6) who was a FG shy of taking down the Chiefs. These two teams will battle it out this week on Monday Night Football. Philadelphia(3-11) and Washington(1-13) are more or less shut down for the season. Philly gave up 72 points to Seattle.
West
Seattle(12-0) are thumping a lot of teams. they have scored over over 40 points 5 times, over 50 points 3 times, over 60 twice and over 70 last week. We have not seen this kind of dominance in Paydirt since it opened it's doors 11 years ago. Arizona(4-10) has found some life in recent weeks. After going 6 games with out a single point, they have won 2 in a row and scored an average of 27.5 pts per game doing so. Yes in order to score more points than the other team you must first score points. San Francisco(3-11) and Los Angeles(2-12) will be regrouping in 1981.
North
Green Bay(11-3) has a ticket to the dance. Their division foe Detroit(8-6) does not. The Lions had the Packers on the ropes a few times this season but in the end Green Bay was too much. Minnesota(5-9) and Chicago(5-9) will be hitting the drawing board this off-season to try and find a way to take down the Pack.
South
Tampa Bay(13-1) might be the only team in the NFC to give Seattle a run for their money. They came up short 28-24 earlier in the season and was the only team that gave the Seahawks a scare. Carolina(11-3) and New Orleans(10-4) will enter the 1980 playoffs from Wild Card spots. Atlanta(6-8) has won 6 of their last 7 games with rookie GM marinarul10. Woooooweeee is the South gonna be tough in 81'.
Games to Watch: Week 15New Orleans @ Carolina
Cleveland @ Buffalo
NY Giants @ Dallas - Monday Night Football
