Great job to both Denver and Green Bay. It is nice to see the Broncos get to the big game. Great job as always to KC and Seattle.

Wow! How did we find a way to blow that one. We definitely had our chances. The game fittingly ended with Donald Hall the highest rated WR in the league dropping the pass.

Both teams had blows at the end, and that had to be the best CC game in Paydirt history, or at least as good as any other. I couldnt watch it after you recovered the onside kick, I thought we were toast at that point, either a FG or TD. Very surprised we won vs a vastly superior WR group vs secondary matchup, which showed a couple of times during the game. Off season is going to involve a lot of retooling for the Pack. Great game and win for the Pack against heavy odds and roster mismatch. The two PI's that killed picks were hard to take in the 4th also.

2nd time in the Conference title stage 2 road teams won ( 1980 , 1975 ) which is behind 1 home team and 1 road team won ( 1979 , 1978 , 1977 , 1976 , 1974 , 1973 , 1972 ) and the 1st time this happened in 1975 it was Washington Redskins and Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl which Cincinnati Bengals came from the Wildcard round awhile Washington Redskins came from the Divisional Round which this time both Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers came from the wildcard round

1980 2 road teams won
1979 1 home team and 1 road team won
1978 1 home team and 1 road team won
1977 1 home team and 1 road team won
1976 1 home team and 1 road team won
1975 2 road teams won
1974 1 home team and 1 road team won
1973 1 home team and 1 road team won
1972 1 home team and 1 road team won
1971 2 home teams won
1970 2 home teams won

also btw 9 time a wildcard round team has gone to the Super Bowl

1980 Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl
1979 Kansas City Chiefs lost super bowl
1978 Cleveland Browns won super bowl
1977 Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks which Miami won
1976 = NA
1975 Cincinnati Bengals lost super bowl
1974 = NA
1973 Oakland Raiders lost super bowl
1972 Washington Redskins lost super bowl
1971 = NA
1970 = NA

The Paydirt Report: Conference Championships

Wow did yall get your moneys worth in that NFC Championship game? What a game.
And Denver keeps on rollin. It's gonna be Cinderella vs Powerhouse in Super Bowl XI.

AFC
Denver Broncos 23
Kansas City Chiefs 6

Denver's Cinderella season continues as they dashed Kansas City's high hopes of a 2nd blackflys trophy yet again. The Chiefs are so close a Super Bowl ring they can taste it. But the Bronco's keep on rolling past their opponents and find themselves in the middle of the lime light before the big game.

The Broncos jumped out early to a 13-0 lead in a driving rainstorm that made the pass game tough on both teams. With a brief scare when Kansas City closed the gap to 13-6, they stepped on the gas and pulled through the mud leaving little doubt to the critics who is going to represent the AFC in Super Bowl XI. Congrats to both broncos7nuggets on their continued run and to Meatmen on another terrific season. They have a great roster and wont be disappearing anytime soon.

NFC
Green Bay Pckers 32
Seattle Seahawks 30

If you missed this one as I can say is you missed a dandy. All the story lines were there. Two powerhouses clashing with ones undefeated season on the line and the other just knocking off another powerhouse in the divisional round and looking for their first Super Bowl appearance.

Unlike in Kansas City, it was a comfortable 70 degrees inside the Seattle King Dome for this shootout. The Seahawks would strike first and early with a 60 yd TD pass from QB Sullivan to WR Lokken to go up 7-0 1:34 into the game. MVP candidate QB Sullivan would tally 4 TD's on the day but had a rough game overall after being harassed by the Green Bay defense resulting in 3 Int's as well. Seattle then intercepted a Miguel Davis pass on Green Bay's very first possession but could not convert those into points. David also had a rough day passing as he would turn it over 3 times through the air. From then on, the Packers and Seahawks would slug it out, trading punch after punch in a see-saw game that went right down to the wire.

With the score Green Bay leading 27-24 and 2:35 left, the play of the game happened when DE Bruhn sacked QB Sullivan in the end zone for a safety to put the Pack up 29-24 and would end up being the deciding factor in the Green Bay win. That play and a controversial decision from Seattle Seahawks head coach John Hood to desperately call for an onside kick from their own 20 yd line that they would not recover. It resulted in a 47 yd FG by future Hall of Fame kicker Carlos Beard to put the Packers up 32-24. The Seahawks are 3-time Super Bowl Champions for a reason. They were not going to give up til the gun sounded. The would strike back with a 72 TD pass from QB Sullivan to WR Taylor with 1:44 remaining. It was Taylor's 2nd on the day. The Seahawks would go for the 2 point conversion to tie it up but SS Jones would save the day by knocking a QB Sullivan pass down in the end zone.

Just when you think it was over......wait. The Seahawks did what? They recovered the onside kick at the Green Bay 48 yard line with 1:32 on the clock and a timeout to spare. A FG wins it. But the Packer defense swarmed the Seahawk offense in the last 4 plays to end an incredible NFC Championship game. Congrats to GrandadB on his first trip to the Super Bowl and to awest827 on an incredible 34 game win streak that dates back to week 2 of the 1979 regular season.

Oh did I mention that the 1971 Cleveland Browns are popping the cork on their champagne bottles?
