The Paydirt Report
MM Beat Edition: Week 8
by Meatmen
Happy Sunday Funday sports fans! This was not a week to be on the road as 11 of 16 home teams came out on top. Add to this, most of those victories were pretty lopsided favoring the home team. There were six games decided by 21 - 28 points and a 7th decided by 48. only one of the teams were on the road. As promised I switched up the format a little this week just to keep things fresh. Won't say as I will be doing this often as it takes quite a bit of time. Let's dive right in, shall we?
Pittsburgh Steelers 10 @ Denver Broncos 31The Broncos (6-2) laid it on the Steelers (1-7) pretty good. Mark pool tossed the pigskin for 282 yards and two touchdowns. Joe Oliver had 132 receiving yards and Leo Oren Had 102 yards rushing and 61 yards receiving. Denver led 17 to 3 at the half and never looked back. The Broncos hold on to the number one spot by a game in the Afc West and the Steelers may be looking to the mailbox.
Oakland Raiders 20 @ Kansas City Chiefs 33The Chief’s got an early leg up with Joseph Burt’s Pick 6 of a David Hunter pass on the first play of the game. The Chiefs managed 199 rushing yards and “Big Deal” Davis was 21/26 154 in the air. A rare 10 sacks in a game. Kansas City won that battle as well with seven sacks of Hunter. While Davis was only put on his can three times by the Raiders. Chiefs kept pace one game back of Denver (5-3) wow Oakland (2-6) slipped to sole possession of the last place.
Tennesee Titans 6 @ San Diego Chargers 34The Chargers defense came up big with three interceptions and 2 sacks. Eric Young Was an efficient 18/25 for 250 yards and three touchdowns. Felix butcher led the offensive attack with 95 yards on the ground and another 35 in the air. The Chargers also one time of possession with 33 minutes and 26 and kept the Titans out of the end zone all day limiting them to two field goals San Diego (4-4) hold on to 3rd place. While the Titans (1-7) are keeping a pace of their own.
Buffalo Bills 19 @ New England Patriots. 3The Bills (5-3) Anthony Rose broke a 29-yard run for a touchdown in the third quarter to put this one away has New England could only muster one field goal late in the fourth. The Bills have won 4 in a row and have a 2game lead in the AFC East. After a spark last week New England (2-6) fizzled.
New York Jets 20 @ Miami Dolphins 30Eric Fiorini was 30/45 for 333 yards and 3 TDs and 1 Int. Donald Buck ran for 100 yards to push the Dolphins over the Jets. Jets QB Charles brown went 29/51 for 344 yards, 1 TD and 4 Ints and Jets WR Steven Lawton had 176 receiving yards and 20 rush yards to account for 196 of the Jets 394 yards. Newly acquired Paul Paul was not active for the game or things may have been different? Miami (3-5) and NYJ (3-5) are two games back of the Bills in the AFC East with plenty of season remaining.
Clevland Browns 3 @ Baltimore Ravens 51The Ravens get their third win in a row with a good old-fashioned take it to the woodshed 51-03 victory over Cleveland. Many thought this game would have been much closer. Larry Walker turned in another fine performance 20/29 for 304 yds 4 TDs and 2 Ints. 4th year QB Merle Paulson Simply was not up to Dealing with a Ravens defense that has only given up 94 points in the first 8 games. The Raven’s (7-1) stay atop the AFC North and the Browns (5-3) sink to third place 2 games back.
Washinton Redskins 17 @ Cinncinatti Bengals 33Bengals QB Micheal Lemanski smartly managed 186 yards and 2 TDs and the rush team of Schnieder and Cuellar were instrumental in the pouring rain and gloom of Cincy. The Redskins spark seemed to be quashed as they never recovered as they ended the 1Q on a 75 yard 8 play drive that saw Mark Sprankle with a 43 catch and run and a 2 yard TD run by Scott Boyd was wasted as Xavier Wright missed an XP wide right. The Bengals (6-2)) now have sole possession of 2nd place in the AFC North and The Skins (4-4) fall to 2nd in the NFC East 1game behind.
Indianapolis Colts 16 @ Arizona Cardinals 19Coach norm and his Arizona Cardinals won their third in a row as QB Joesph Carr went 30/35 for 312 yards a TD and an int. Fredrick Yates added 9 receptions for 120 yards to bolster the Arizona offense. Indy suffered from some key injuries and while they kept it close it just seemed to be the day of the birds. The Cardinals (5-3) jump to within a game of the first-place Seahawks and despite the loss, The Colts (6-2) retain a 3 game lead in the AFC South.
Houston Texans 34 @ Jacksonville Jaguars 32A real tough one for the Jags as they had a chance to pull past the Texans. But couldn't seem to get the job done not that they didn't try this is the Heartbreak game of the week. 4th quarter 5 minutes left Jacksonville safety and on the ensuing kickoff returns the kick for a touchdown and Lex to go for a two-point conversion that did not work. Titans take over with 4 minutes left and proceeded to run the clock down to a minute and 1 second where they kicked the field goal. The Jags last-gasp was smothered as Derrick Gallegos intercepted a Charles Denton pass and took what hopes the jags had. The Texans (3-5) and Jaguars (3-5) are 3 games back, tied for 2nd.
Dallas Cowboys 27 @ Philidelphia Phillies 0 YES, I said it Philadelphia Phillies. Without a human leader, this Team is off my radar. (if) you beat them as a veteran you may as well be playing against the Phillies, Flyers, Fresh prince? Philadelphia Freedom with Elton John and Peter Frampton. No slight Cowboys and Hector. I don't mean to diminish your resurgence just saying……Dallas (5-3) moves into 1st place win a 27-0 *** whopping of the Eagles. I dare the AI to get pissed at me…….LOL. Whasssup Vikes?
Los Angelos Rams 6 @ New York Giants 16Esteban Kline was an efficient passer as the Giants took advantage of 2 Rodger Zook interceptions to win the day. One day Zook will be a great one but not today. The Giants (3-5) and Rams (3-5) are both in 3rd place in their respective divisions.
Seatle Seahawks 20 @ Carolina Panthers 48Walter “the ace” Azevedo got his 3rd player of the week honor going 23/40 for 351 yards and 5 TD’s in a Carolina romp or the Seahawks...the Seahawks went up 17 nothing and the first quarter and The Panthers answered the 17 to make it 20- 17 Seattle at the half. That is where the game ended has Carolina scored 31 unanswered points to put the game on ice Carolina (7-1) remains in the tie for first a Seattle (6-2) seams to be wavering but still in control of the NFC West.
Chicago Bears 24 @ San Francisco Giants 16The Bears took advantage of San Francisco to keep pace in their division. Despite being outrushed, outpassed and only getting 9 downs. QB Larry Galloway made a 19/31 completion pct and Somehow came up with three touchdown passes! Henry Kuntz had 5 receptions for 129 yards in the losing effort for the 49ers. The Bears (4-4) in 2nd place 2 games back in the NFC Central and the 49ers fall to an abysmal (1-7).
Minnesota Vikings 31 @ Green Bay Packers 41Green Bay’s Dewey Sherer got the POTW honor as the Packers stuck it to the Vikes..Green Bay's Arthur Hall had 179 yards receiving including a spectacular 84 yard (hot read) straight up the gut! Despite the Vikings poor showing so far, I would not count them out as a spoiler. The Packers it's being five are in third place NFC North. Vikings did not move YET?
Detroit Lions 14 @ Atlanta Falcons 40 Holy cow! Theodore Mullens gets his second player of the week honor this season as the Falcons fly over the Lions by 26 points two interceptions early in the game didn't help their effort. Falcon’s Jay Mumma had 3 receptions for 173 yards. The birdies caught 3 stray passes to send the big gamers to the petting zoo. The Falcons (5-3) win helps them keep Pace with Carolina and Tampa Bay in what is arguably the best division in paydirt. Detroit remains with a two-game lead over Chicago in the NFC South.
Tampa Bay Bucs 19 @ New Orleans Saints 16In hindsight, this could have been my game of the week. I'm just learning how to pick them. With all the lovey-dovey I truly believe that the NFC South is the division to beat. This could be the division that puts up 3 winners and someone has to stay home minding the popcorn machine & watching from the couch. (been there ..done that) Tampa (7-1) 1 stays tied for first place. the Saints are a formidable team by no means a last-place team just happened to be in with the best right now.
