And the Game of the Week between division foes Jacksonville Jaguars and the Indianapolis Colts. The Jags come out on top in the thriller 26-23 on a late 38 yd FG by Rodriguez just :37 seconds after Indy tied it up on a 29 yd FG of their own by Duncan. Now for the rest of the Paydirt action in week 5.
AFC
West
Oakland(5-0) takes down the undefeated Browns to stay a game up on the pressuring San Diego Chargers(4-1). The Chargers rolled again and are looking good going into their big game against the Raiders this weekend. Denver(2-3) loses for the second consecutive week while Kansas City(2-3) gets back on the winning side of things.
East
Buffalo(4-1) holds a one game lead over Miami(3-2) after their big divisional matchup. Both New England(1-4) and the Jets(1-4) lose heartbreakers to fall 3 games back of the leading Bills.
North
Cleveland(4-1) maintains their lead in the North but Pittsburgh(3-2) on their 3 game win streak has closed the gap. Baltimore(2-3) and Cincinnati(2-3) both win to get a game closer to those Browns.
South
The Race is on in the South. Jacksonville(4-1) wins a thriller over the Colts(2-3) who are playing much better ball than their record shows. And the surprising Houston Texans(4-1) wins again as Jacksonville and Houston are tied for the lead in the division. Tennessee(0-5) are singing the blues with a lil Nashville flare to it.
NFC
East
The New York football Giants(4-1) are in first? Still? What the fa-heck. The Giants beat Philadelphia(1-4) while Washington(3-2) loses to the Geezers in Cincinnati to drop a game back. Dallas(1-4) wins their first game of the year with a victory over the previously unbeaten Seattle Seahawks.
West
Speaking of those Seahawks(4-1), they still hold a two game lead over both the Cardinals(2-3) and the Rams(2-3) in the division. The 49ers drop to (0-5) with their 9th consecutive loss going back to week 8 of 1977. Their only win in the last 2 seasons so far was against the Giants. They are 1-23 in their last 24 regular season games.
North
Green Bay(5-0) keeps winning while the rest of the division keeps losing. Along with the New York Jets, the Chicago Bears(1-4) have got to be one of the hard luck teams in 1978 so far. The NFC North could look a lot differently if a couple plays here and there went their way. Minnesota(2-3) looks close to competing for a playoff spot. Maybe just a couple of pieces away. Detroit(1-4) has been the polar opposite of the Bills and Giants with their rough start to the season.
South
Tampa Bay(4-1) finnaly goes down and prolly shouldn't look behind them because Atlanta(3-2) who has won 3 straight since finding a kicker and Carolina(3-2) who we all know is very dangerous when they start to get on a roll, are brething down the Bucs necks in the South. New Orleans(1-4) has been competitive thus far, but will it be enough to save Mcarovil's job in the big easy?
