Game of the Week
Los Angeles Rams 15 Tennessee Titans 13
The Rams could not afford to lose to a 1-10 Tennessee team with the NFC West race being a 3 team affair. They were looking to cruise but there was a storm a brewing. The Rams knew they were in a battle when they entered the locker room at the half only up by 2 FG's 6-0.
The Rams would extend their lead in the 3rd QT with another FG to make it 9-0. But the Titans would break the ice and break it fast. On their next play from scrimmage Tennessee would strike Paydirt on a 85 yd pass from QB Smith to WR Taylor to close it up 9-7 as they headed into the 4th QT. The Rams would kick another FG to extend the lead to 12-7. With time running down under the 2 minute mark Tennessee did what they had to do and that was to score another TD. This time it was an 11 yd pass from QB Henry to TE Green to make it 13-12 in favor of the Titans with 1:12 left in the game. Tennessee would fail on the what turned out to be a very important 2 point conversion. The Titans would kick the ball back to Los Angeles for a touch back. The Rams would get themselves in FG position mainly on a clutch 44 yd pass from QB Mullens to WR Clark with 1:00 remaining. Tennessee had to use up all their timeouts on their last drive so they helplessly watched the clock wind down to a 5th FG attempt by the Rams Phillips. He would drill the 32 yarder for the win. Phillips was 5 for 5 on the day and was awarded the games mvp award. Now to the rest of Paydirt.
AFC
West
Oakland(10-2) rolled Kansas City(7-5) in a big game for the Chiefs. San Diego(8-4) and Denver(8-4) both win to keep pace. The Broncos have won 6 in a row and is a team to watch.
East
Both Miami(10-2) and Buffalo(9-3) win as they begin their sprint to the finish. What a race this one has been. New England(3-9) and NY Jets(2-10) lose and can't wait for the off-season but would like to ruin a playoff contenders hopes and dreams along the way.
North
Cleveland (9-3) wins agains to keep in contention for that first round bye. Baltimore(5-7), Pittsburgh(4-8) and Cincinnati(3-8-1) are all out of it and the Bengals are eliminated.
South
Houston(10-2) wins a gain. In fact almost all of the South won this week with exception of a close game by Tennessee(1-11). Jacksonville(6-6) and Indianapolis (4-8) both win. Indy and Tennessee are both eliminated
NFC
East
A shake up in the NFC East is taking place. Two teams that were tied for the division lead a few weeks ago Washington(7-5) and NY Giants(6-6) have lost their last 2 and 3 games respectively. While that's going on, defending East champions Dallas(6-5-1) who defeated the Giants have climbed right back into the thick of things. The race to the finish is on. Philly(2-9-1) wins but is eliminated.
West
With the Los Angeles(8-4) win and loses by Seattle(7-5) and Arizona(6-6) the Rams takeover the top of the division. And in San Fransisco(0-12) the media is buzzing. But not for a good reason. Rumor has it that if the 49ers dont win at least 1 in it's last 4 games zdowntimes head will be on the chopping block at seasons end.
North
Green Bay(10-2) takes over the home field advantage race with a win. Detroit(4-8) and Minnesota(3-9) lose and Chicago(2-10) breaks their losing streak with a win of their own.
South
Tampa Bay(9-2-1) loses but Atlanta(8-4) cannot close ground as they lose to Buffalo. But guess what? New Orleans(8-4) didn't lose. As a matter of fact they won their 7th consecutive to close in on the division lead. Their 7 wins in a row ties Miami for the leagues most. Carolina(5-7) knocked off division rival Tampa Bay to keep themselves alive.
