The Paydirt Report: Week 11Unlike week 10 where most games were ho-hum and the Game of the Week was easy to choose. Week 11 had a bounty full of exciting games to choose from. Three of the games went to overtime with the Dallas / Tampa Bay game ending in a tie. Man I hate ties. Wish there was a sudden death option. Cause if there were, Id be putting in in our rules debate pronto. But we don't so I digress.
Game of the Week
Denver 16 Green Bay 13
A battle between a rookie GM's franchise vs an ole vet who knows a thing or two. Green Bay held a 6-3 lead heading into the 4th QT in a slug fest up to this point. Denver would tie it up on the first play of the 4th quarter on a 45 yd FG by the Broncos kicker Bardwell. Green Bay would jump back into the lead on the games first TD on a 14 yd pass from QB Sullivan to TE Mullins to go up 13-6 with a lil over 12 minutes remaining.
It would stay that way at the 2 minute warning and it seemed that the Packers were going to grind out yet another victory. But with 1:24 remaining the Broncos would strike gold on a 72 yd TD pass from QB Denton to WR Saunders to knot the game up once again this time at 13 a piece. But on the ensuing kickoff Green Bay's kick returner Mumma would make a fatal mistake by fumbling the ball back to the Bronco's on the Packers own 35 yd line. Denver's backup CB Kistler would make the big hit to jar the ball from Mumma in which he also came up with the ball at the bottom of the scrum pile. Denver would make Green Bay pay for their mistake dearly as the Broncos would send the game winning 38 yd FG sailing through the uprights for their 4th straight victory. Now to the rest of the Paydirt races.
AFC
Oakland(9-2) wins again to maintain a 2 game lead in the Wild Wild West. 2 games you say? That's because San Diego(7-4) went down in defeat to the defending champions Miami. Both Denver(7-4) and Kansas City(7-4) both pounced on the opportunity to tie up the 2nd spot in the division.
East
With Miami's(9-2) win over the Chargers, they hold onto a slim 1 game lead over Buffalo(8-3) who won again and keeps the pressure turned up on the Dolphins for that division title. New England(3-8) and NY Jets(2-9) both went to their locker rooms losers.
North
Cleveland(8-3) is starting to flex their muscle in the AFC. They may have a good hold on their division, they are still looking to jump into that all important first round bye. Baltimore(5-6) dropped to 3 games back with their loss Pittsburgh(4-7) lost and Cincinnati(3-7-1) won to round out the North.
South
Houston(9-2) bounces back to race for that first round bye as well. Jacksonville(5-6) found it's way back into the win column with both Indianapolis(3-8) and Tennessee(1-10) both losing.
NFC
East
Washington(7-4) goes down in defeat but NY Giants(6-5) cannot take advantage as they also lose for the 4th time in their last 5 games. Dallas(5-5-1) fails to take advantage as well with their tie against Tampa Bay and Philadelphia(1-9-1) loses for the 4th time in 4 games.
West
In a huge game the Seattle Seahawks(7-4) take down the Los Angeles Rams(7-4) tie up the West once again. This allows Arizona(6-5) to close up with in 1 game and they can smell blood in the water. The 49ers(0-11) again.
North
Green Bay's(9-2) loss drops them a half game back of the home field advantage race with Tampa Bay. Detroit(4-7) was the only victorious team in the North this week as both Minnesota(3-8) and Chicago(1-10) go down in flames.
South
Tampa Bay's(9-1-1) tie allows Atlanta(8-3) and New Orleans(7-4) to close up ever so slightly as they both jostle for a playoff spot. Carolina(4-7) wins and is prolly the bast 4-7 team in Paydirt. But we all know Bill Purcell's quote "you are what your record says you are".
