I could be wrong as I often am..but I believe that the draft has changed. There are less High value "for sure" picks in the opening rounds...and what seems to be more average players..perhaps less of a focus on "the Star player" they are still out there but will be harder to get. I only have 4 teams but in the last 2-3 seasons it seems my middle picks have done better. I am of the opinion if the lower rounds don't produce WHY BOTHER! Lets just cut it of at 4 or 5 rounds and be done with it. Truth is there are some real effective "lower" rated players out there. You have to put in the work to find them. In this league, with so many smart and experienced GM's talent is hard to come by...
First round free agency is Brutal..we pay washed up and mediocre players HUGE sums of money just to outbid another for that last little extra that might help us win. My own example 70 Million for MLB Barstow last season. Yes, He is a solid everyday MLB but In no way a "STAR"!
I needed a replacement for my aging MLB Willis "A STAR" now! (I finished in last place in our division in the '76 season I still picked 22) no other option but to go out and pay to get him. This years FA was Limp or "Bunz" as I now understand means Crappy. So where do you find playrs?
Trades are even tougher. This years draft wasn't over 12 hours before I was offered a trade for my 1981 (next) 1st round pick. The usual offer is something like I want your first round pick and I'll give you an 80+ rated WR with 49 pass catch and 63 Speed and these two other guys with 20% or more retirement and huge salaries, I don't blame anyone. The competition is fierce in this league. Wouldn't want it any other way....Glad to be a part of the league..It all starts up again Tuesday...Lets do it!....MM
