The Paydirt Report: Week 6We are down to 2 undefeated teams in 1981. Both Seattle and Detroit keep their dreams alive. Dallas was the latest to go down but that was to Seattle. Somebody had to bite the dust. Only Washington and Minnesota have yet to put one in the win column.
The Battle Royale game between San Diego and Atlanta lived up to it's billing. What a game in Georgia Dome. The Atlanta Falcons knocked off the San Diego Chargers 20-19 in a thriller. With San Diego up 19-13 with :56 left to go in the game, the Falcons QB Mullens hit WR Mumma on a 28 yd TD strike to win 20-19 that had the Dirty Bird fans going wild. The win also propelled the Falcons into first place all alone to put the icing on the cake. Both the Wild Wild West and the Super South have incredible races going on as we head towards the halfway mark. But more on that later.
In the All-Time GM wins race, awest827 wrestled the lead away from Warthog 144 wins to 143. The rookie GM race is knotted up between Lucky, pronfl51 and dd35 who are all sitting @ 2-4.
Future Hall of Fame QB John Sullivan from Seattle continues his torrid pace. He has thrown for 21 TD's with only 2 Int's and we haven't reached the halfway mark yet. Cleveland's Richard Stovall leads the league in rushing with 616 yds and 2 TD's while Washington's Williams Springer leads in receptions with 41. But Philly's WR Reimann is the big story here. He has 39 receptions with 932 yds and 10 TD's. Will a nagging leg injury slow him down? I dont know but it seems like that could be the only thing that could. The Jets Dudley Gonzalez and Indy's Jason Garret are tied on top of the sacks race with 6 a piece. Tampa Bay's Carlos Walker and Philadelphia's Tony Johnson are tied in the Int category with 7 each. The tremendous career of Carlos Walker continues. And now to the rest of Paydirt.
AFCWest
Kansas City(4-2) were the only team in the West to win in week 6 and it catapults them to the top of the division with San Diego(4-2) who lost a close one in this weeks Battle Royale. Denver(3-3) and Oakland(2-4) drop games in week 6.
East
Miami(5-1) wins again to stay atop the AFC East. They have to keep winning cause Buffalo(4-2) is right there in case they dont. The NY Jets(2-4) were feeling so good about putting up 81 points on lowly Washington last week that it carried over to this week giving them their 2nd win in a row. New England(1-5) drops their 3rd straight.
North
The AFC North had a rough week with the exception of Pittsburgh(1-5) who pulled off a huge upset over their hated division foe Cleveland(3-3). Cincinnati(4-2) could not capitalize as they lose but still hold a slim 1 game lead over the Browns. Baltimore(1-5) continues to struggle with their 4th loss in a row.
South
Houston(5-1) bounces back from last weeks loss to remain on top of the AFC South. Indianapolis(3-3) wins their 2nd straight while Jacksonville(3-3) drops their 2nd in a row. Tennessee(2-4) is struggling but is still in it at 3 games back.
NFCEast
With Dallas(5-1) losing their first game of the year and the NY Giants(4-2) winning their 3 straight, the East got a lil bit closer. Philadelphia(2-4) wins their 2nd game of the year. There looks like there are some good things going on in Eagles organization. Washington(0-6) fires their long time and legendary GM balckflys as that franchise has sunk to new lows. blackflys is 5th in the All-Time Wins list with 126. He also has 2 Super Bowl rings, 4 Conference Championships and 8 Division titles to his name. Whether he decides to return and GM again or not, he is certain to entered into the Paydirt Hall of Fame.
West
Seattle(6-0) continues their dominance in the NFC as the take down the once undefeated Cowboys to keep their record spotless. San Francisco(2-4) who won, Arizona(2-4) and Los Angeles(1-5) all watch the Seahawks in wonder.
North
Detroit(6-0) keeps making some noise in the NFC as they too remain undefeated. They are one of only two left that can say that at this point in the season. They will be tested this week as Dallas comes to town. Green Bay(4-2) wins to stay 2 back of the Lions. Chicago(3-3) slipped to drop to 3rd in the division. Minnesota(0-6) remains winless in 81'.
South
The Super South is living up to their name with the rising Falcons(5-1) leading the way. Tampa Bay(4-2) and Carolina(4-2) are tight on their heals. New Orleans(1-5) finally jumps into the win column but has a long way to go. It's not too late but the time is now.
