The Paydirt Report: Week 4Were at the 1st quarter mark of the season with some good games and some teams wearing out the scoreboard. Baltimore, Indianapolis, Seattle and Tampa Bay all remain undefeated while the NY Gianta, Minnesota and Green Bay are the only teams looking to break the ice and into the win column. Eight teams lit up the scoreboard by putting up 30 or more with 4 of those teams scoring 48 or more. And two of those teams scoring 30+ were in losing efforts. Crazy week.
Our Game of the Week again features the Los Angeles Rams. But this week they are the team on the short end of a great game. The Houston Texans got their first win of the season by defeating the Los Angeles Rams 24-22 in a game that came down to a two point conversion attempt by the Rams with 0:05 left in the game. The Texans CB Lenard Osborn knocked down the Rams QB Zook pass in the endzone to seal the deal.
Since it's the end of the first quarter of the season lets have a look at the division races.
AFC
WestOh how the Beercloud predictions overlooked the Denver Broncos(3-1). They have jumped up top of the Wild Wild West riding a 3 game winning streak. They trounced the San Diego Chargers(2-2) by 20. Denver's bronco7nuggets has flirted with the division title before only to fall short. Could this be their year? Kansas City(2-2) has dropped their 2nd straight as putting up 34 points was not enough to win when you give up 59. Oakland(1-3) has lost 3 in a row and is in a tail spin. Can they recover?
EastThe AFC East is wide open in the early going. Miami(2-2) holds the number one spot over last years division champion Buffalo(1-2), NY Jets(1-2) and New England(1-2). The Bills have given up the most post in Paydirt with 138 while The Patriots have scored the least @ 27. It seems the East is still trying to sort itself out.
NorthThe AFC North has one heck of race going on out of the gate. With Baltimore's(4-0) rise and the typical front runners Cincinnati(3-1) and Cleveland(3-1) on the chase. The Bengals only loss came at the hands of their rival Browns in a thriller at Cleveland. The Browns only loss came at the hands of divisional opponent New England. Baltimore and Cincinnati will go at it this week in the Jungle.
SouthThe Indianapolis Colts(4-0) are the surprise story in 1982. They've jumped out to a great start so far and need to put as much distance between them and Houston(1-3) as the can. With the Texans slow start the Colts have taken full advantage. Jacksonville(2-2) is trying to stay close while Tennessee(1-3) sits tied at the bottom with Houston.
NFC
EastWashington(3-1) has risen from the depths of a trouble franchise the last few years thanks to their new GM Androwski. Dallas'(2-2) new GM hectorg93 of Paydirt B fame has the Cowboys a game back of the Redskins. Could this be the new rivalry of old between the Cowboys and Redskins? Maybe... Philadelphia's(1-3) GM walked out on them and are in search of their next GM. While the NY Giants(0-4) who has searched the last couple of years has stumbled hard out of the blocks.
WestSeattle(4-0) has taken up where it left off after awest827's departure to Baltimore in the off-season. jmvda has the Seahawks singing along with revamped Los Angeles(2-2) and Arizona(2-2) in chase. San Francisco(1-3) is struggling 3 games back.
NorthDetroit(3-1) jumps into the North lead with their 2nd consecutive win. After Chicago's(2-2) great start, have slipped a bit under rookie GM Damion. Green Bay(0-4) is the other big story in Paydirt this season as they separated from their long time and former Super Bowl Champion GM GrandadB. Former New England GM CoachSimpson has taken over the reigns. Minnesota(0-4) under new management is struggling this season. OffensiveTaco took the Vikings job in the off-season after posting 4 NFC East division championships with the Cowboys.
SouthThe Super South remains just that. Arguably the toughest division in Paydirt their are 4 teams that can lift the banner at the end of the season. Tampa Bay(4-0) has rose to the top again after an off season in 81'. Defending Super Bowl champs Carolina(3-1) and New Orleans(3-1) are hot on the Bucs heals with Hotlanta(2-2) right there but two tough losses to the Panthers will not help their cause in the event of a tie breaker.
