The Paydirt Report
MM Beat Edition: Week 12
by Meatmen
Hey there sports fans! Week 12 is in the books and there were many important developments to report. Week 12 saw 11 road teams win and the NFC seems to have asserted some dominance? Lets dive right in.
AFC WESTThe west saw it's 6th lead change and all four teams have been in first at one point or another.
The Broncos (8-5) Gallup back into the lead with a 24-6 whooping of the Chiefs (7-5) who were caught riding bareback and slipped into the number 2 spot in the division. The broncos trade places with the Chiefs for the 2nd AFC seed. San Diego short circuits and loses there 3rd in a row but still manage to avoid the "E". A WC is not out of the question yet. They will have to win it out right as the division record is not in their favor. The Raiders hit the Ice box and are contributing Dagwood's for the post season parties they suffered their 3rd loss in a row as well.
AFC EASTThe Dolphins (7-5) have been on fire as of late. Winning their 5th straight to swim past the Browns 26-3. The Bills (6-6) hit a sour note as they lose by a point in the final 2 minutes to the Saints 21-20. The Jets (5-7) lose but still remain in the hunt. The Patriots get vetoed as they drop their 5th in a row.
*FUN FACT - The Bills were named after a popular barbershop quartet who were in turn named after Wild Bill Cody.
AFC NORTH*edit*
The Ravens (10-2) have a grip on home field advantage in the AFC and continue there wining ways as they left no black plume as a token of their romp through Shea Stadium 48-31. 82 passes by the Jets did little to rustle the Ravens feathers. It is worth mentioning again theat under awest's direction the Ravens (who have never had a winning season) are thriving. The Bengals (7-5) chew up the Steelers to stay in the WC race and the Browns (6-5) drop their 3rd in a row as Paul Brown rolled over in his grave and Brownie the elf took back the Browns Christmas presents in a disappointing 26-3 loss to Miami. While the Browns are still alive their chances don't look good. The Steelers (1-11) are stuffing perogies and chilling the Iron City light for the off season party.
AFC SOUTHThe Texans (7-5) strike it rich and hold off the Raiders who simply would not go away 42-35. The Colts (7-5) streak past the Titans on the rail who would not lay down as well. The Colts drop to the #7 seed. The Jaguars (5-7) let their prey get away when a 4th quarter ambush failed and they lost 17-10 as the Rams escaped the stalking cats. The Jags are down two games but this division has been up and down most of the season and things could change. The Texans have Titans next week and the Colts the week after. The Titans clash with 2 division teams in the final 4 weeks. A spoiler maybe? or a gift from Olympus?
NFC EASTThe Cowboys (9-3) win their 6th in a row to stay tall in the saddle with a slim win over the Giants (17-10). The Redskins (7-5) collected another feather for their war bonnet as they scored ten unanswered and soared over the Eagles who did manage to score for the first time in three games. The Cowboy are circling the wagons as the Skins ride for Dallas in what could determine the division/Bye week and will surely impact the Wild card scenario. The giants (4-8) get the "E" after a disappointing season and join the post season party planning committee. The leaderless Phillies (3-9) continue to fall.
NFC WESTThis is
THE Hottest division in Paydirt right now! The Sea Hawks (9-3) seem to be back on track after a few tough weeks in the mid season as they swoop in and stun the Lions who had been on a 3 game win streak of their own 35-17 to stay atop the division. Coach norm and his Cardinals had the Bears seeing red with a 40-16 visit to the woodshed to stay with in a game of the first place Hawks. While the Rams escape feeding time and beat the Jags 17-10 in a close match-up. These two teams have turned it on the past few weeks and managed to fight their way back into the race. The 9 ers lose their 11th in a row.
NFC NORTHThe Lions (9-3) go home Hungry and the Bears (6-6) got their heads stuck in a honey jar and miss a chance to gain some ground. The Bears still have wild card hopes alive but in the 11th seed it will take close almost a miracle. The Packers (4-8) get a new owner and he is greeted with an "E". Welcome to the best league in MFN, Manthan and good luck to you sir. Stay involved in the forums. The (2-10) Vikings get their second win in a row. They sailed up San Francisco Bay to ransack the 49ers 23-17 in a game of 2 halves, where both teams were in 4 down territory all game l and are now playing it one game at a time.
NFC SOUTHThe Buccaneers (11-1) chase the Falcons (7-5) from the crows nest 31-10. In a game that the Falcons needed desperately. The dirty birds still have an outside chance at the WC but it's a slim one. The Panthers (11-1) DEEEE-VOUR (nom, nom, nom) the Patriots 36-10 to win their league leading 11th in a row! The Panthers and Bucs face of in two weeks. This game will likely determine home field advantage. Neither team has a completely soft schedule left to go so there is still a slim chance for a spoiler opportunity. The Saints get a much needed W to keep their hope alive.
OK gentlemen, there we have it week 12 like it or not, with some fun facts and a few terrible cliches.we close this chapter in Paydirt history. and that's way it was Week 12/1882.
